Overwatch Halloween Terror 2021: New skins revealed ahead of event

We are a little ways out from Overwatch 2, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything to look out for. Overwatch's 2021 Halloween Terror is almost here and we have everything you need to know about the next seasonal event from Activision Blizzard.

Activision Blizzard has done little to address the concerns of employees regarding the company's culture - CEO Bobby Kotick has just managed to settle a lawsuit for a mere 11% of his yearly income. Still, the Halloween Terror Event for 2021 is set to start in Overwatch soon and here's everything we know about that. You have to wonder if there will be anything as scary as the freedoms being afforded to those at the top of Activision Blizzard - spoiler, there isn't

UPDATED - Another couple of skins revealed

Overwatch has teased another handful of new Halloween Terror skins ahead of the start of this year's event - as you can see below, Lucio and Brigitte are joined by Echo to round out the selection of Legendary event cosmetics.

You can check out Satyr Lucio below:

Then, take a look at Brigitte's Van Helsing-esque appearance alongside Echo's Vampire Bat skin:

In addition to this, Reinhardt is getting a new skin in this year's instance of Halloween Terror and we can't wait to get our hands on it!

As you can see below, the "Draugr" skin is inspired by the Norse mythology surrounding the undead - Draugr are supposedly revenant spirits rising from their cairns. You may have killed a few in Skyrim over the years...

The "Draugr" Reinhardt skin is going to set you back 3,000 coins in-game - or you can get it in a Loot Box - and will only be available during the Halloween Terror event.

2021 Halloween Terror release date confirmed

In a thinly detailed tweet, we now know that Overwatch Halloween Terror returns on Tuesday, October 12!

In the short teaser we get a look at an IT inspired Roadhog skin that will be coming as part of the event.

Information expected soon

Overwatch's development team tends to keep everything quiet on social media until a few days before their next event is due - so, if you haven't seen anything regarding the 2021 Halloween Terror Event... That's why.

It's still on the way and we're under the impression that it's due to start in just over a week. This means we should start seeing teasers on PlayOverwatch and other Overwatch Social Media channels from October 11th - if we're lucky they might drop earlier!

Overwatch events tend to start on Tuesday afternoons, though - so... Keep an eye out for something over the weekend.

NEW MAP - Malevento is on the way!

With Overwatch 2 in development, it feels like Overwatch is dying. Thankfully, this isn't exactly the case - Blizzard has announced that Malevento is coming and it's already testing on the PTR servers!

The 2021 Halloween Terror event is due to start in a couple of weeks and this could be the perfect time to introduce Malevento to Overwatch fully. We know it isn't exactly Halloween-themed, but Blizzard could easily throw together a spookier LTM featuring the new map to change the event up a little this time around.

We all like Junkenstien's Revenge but... It's not changed too much since it launched.

BEST SKINS - Which are you looking out for?

Overwatch's Halloween Terror event always introduces some fantastic cosmetics to the game - however, some of the older Halloween Terror skins are easily some of the best in the game. Below we have just a selection of the skins that will become available once more when 2021's Halloween Terror event begins.

When does Halloween Terror 2021 start?

At the moment, we don't know for certain when Overwatch's Halloween Terror event is due to start in 2021. Each year, the dates vary slightly, but Blizzard largely follows a pattern. This means we can offer a fairly accurate prediction. The only issue is that we won't find out for sure how accurate we are until a couple of days before. Blizzard likes to drop these things on us without much notice.

In the past, Overwatch's Halloween Terror event has taken place on the following dates:

  • Halloween Terror 2016 - October 11th until November 1st
  • Halloween Terror 2017 - October 10th until November 2nd
  • Halloween Terror 2018 - October 10th until October 31st
  • Halloween Terror 2019 - October 15th until November 4th
  • Halloween Terror 2020 - October 13th until November 3rd
  • Halloween Terror 2021 - ?

GET SPOOKED, LUV! - Of course, Tracer has a Halloween Terror skin...

Looking at this, we would guess that the Halloween Terror event for 2021 would take place on October 12th and run until November 2nd. Expect to hear confirmation about this from Blizzard in the second week of October.

There's going to be new skins - and old ones...

One thing that makes Overwatch events so great - and a little annoying - is the fact that the event skins are only available during the event itself. Blizzard adds a handful of cosmetics each year, albeit in dwindling numbers, and you can get any older event skins you might have missed at a discounted price for the duration of the event.

This applies to Overwatch's Summer Games, Winter Wonderland, and - of course - Halloween Terror in 2021. If you missed out on Witch Mercy or Bride Sombra, you can get Legendary Skins for 1,000 coins during the Halloween Terror event.

STONE BRIGITTE - An example of an Epic Hero Skin from the Halloween Terror collection...

The new Legendary Skins will set you back 3,000 though, as they're new and available in Loot Boxes. We won't find out what the new Halloween Terror 2021 skins are just yet. Blizzard usually teases these several days before the event starts - It's a sort of build-up, in a way.

Junkenstein's Revenge should be back, too...

We don't know for sure, but we're pretty confident in saying that Junkenstein's Revenge is going to be back. This limited-time mode pits four Overwatch players against waves of enemy "Zombie-Omnics" and is one of the few PvE events available in Overwatch at the moment.

It takes place just outside of Eichenwalde Castle, the final stage of the Eichenwalde map, and the whole area is given a spooky makeover.

DOCTOR WHO?! - Junkenstein's the name, don't wear it out!

You face off against "Boss Enemies" in the form of Junkrat's Dr. Junkenstein, Mercy's Witch, and a couple of other Overwatch characters. It's a lot of fun and a nice switch-up from Overwatch's traditional PvP gameplay. As you might expect, you can only play it for the duration of the Halloween Terror event.

We should also see a weekly challenge pop up!

Finally, we're expecting 2021's Halloween Terror event to get a weekly challenge system similar to previous events.

With this system, over the course of the three-week event, three weeks of content will be available to unlock for free by completing challenges.

It usually follows this format...

  • Week One
    • Three Wins - Themed Emblem
    • Six Wins - Themed Spray
    • Nine Wins - Themed Hero Skin
  • Week Two
    • Three Wins - Themed Emblem
    • Six Wins - Themed Spray
    • Nine Wins - Themed Hero Skin
  • Week Three
    • Three Wins - Themed Emblem
    • Six Wins - Themed Spray
    • Nine Wins - Themed Hero Skin

Each week will feature an Epic skin for a different Overwatch hero and the Emblem and Spray that comes with it should reflect this new appearance. Again, we won't find out about these until closer to release.
