Assassin's Creed Infinity Will NOT be Free-to-Play

Earlier this year it was reported that Assassin's Creed Infinity would be the next game in the alternative history phenomenon. One controversial idea floated around was that the game would be a live-service offering, essentially meaning the end of traditional Assasin's Creed releases.

While this has not been denied by Ubisoft, they are not confirming that the game will not be free-to-play as certain players had theorized.

No Free-to-Play for Infinity

This direct denial that Assassin's Creed will not be free-to-play could go a long way to putting long-time fans of the franchise at ease. It wasn't an overwhelmingly positive response when the idea of an ever-evolving Assassin's Creed experience was revealed.

With Ubisoft looking to lean more into live-service and free-to-play games, many figured it was just a matter of time before AC became the latest franchise to adopt this approach.

The more established Ubisoft franchises like Assassin's Creed, FarCry and Splinter Cell may be treated a little differently from the rest of their portfolio. Mainly due to the following that each game has built up over time and changing the formula too much could lead to an exodus of fans interested in the game.

We've already seen free-to-play instalments announced for The Division and Ghost Recon with the latter being received incredibly poorly. Ubisoft has been a powerhouse in the game industry for some time now so it's hard to argue that they are taking these actions without having done their research but more and more fans are starting to have doubts over this new direction.

The Division: Heartlands was also delayed during the same call that the news about Assassin's Creed was revealed. Reaction to this news appears to be fairly tame but we're unsure whether this is due to a lack of interest in the game or the recent change in attitude towards game delays from the wider gaming community.
