Call of Duty Modern Warfare Release: Classic arcade COD & stunning campaign gets the franchise back on track

Call of Duty Modern Warfare is finally here and as a community we get to evaluate and decide for ourselves whether or not it will be a good year for COD.

After Call of Duty's previous difficult years with trying to produce a smash hit, the pressure was on for Infinity Ward to execute on Modern Warfare - and so far so good.

Back to basics

So what did Infinity Ward do? They went back to where it all began and returned to their roots with a classic arcade Call of Duty and revived the Modern Warfare name.

With sales falling, Infinity Ward took on board the community's advice to create a game that many of us will spend hours of our lives playing.

Campaign

The most recent Call of Duty, Black Ops 4, infamously did not include a campaign mode and the backlash was severe. This year Infinity Ward returned the single-player mode to the franchise and have clearly put a lot of effort into making a deep, thoughtful, and emotional game.

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare campaign is Hollywood movie-esque and this is nothing to complain about, with the graphics and storyline both conveying what war in today's world really looks like and pans out to be.

HERO: The legendary Captain Price is back

Captain John Price makes his return in the Modern Warfare campaign. The SAS soldier has appeared in all the MW series and is a fan favourite.

Price is one of the main characters in this year's story along with a few others as the campaign focuses on the sibling pairing of Farah and Hadir during a civil war in their home country of Urzikstan.

With Price, and your main avatars Kyle Garrick and Alex, Modern Warfare's campaign is about more than just diving in, guns blazing and brings elements of infiltration, stealth, and sniping. Making it feel remarkably different from the multiplayer modes most people will be playing almost exclusively.

Spec Ops

Xbox’s multiyear agreement had finished and flipped the CoD hierarchy on its head.

Sony and Playstation had seen the reaping benefits that the game could bring and managed to strike a deal with the Call of Duty franchise allowing PS4 owners to gain these benefits over Xbox and PC.

With this years benefit for Playstation owners having the privileges of playing Spec Ops Survival Mode for almost a whole year before Xbox and PC players can.

Don't stress too much... Spec Ops will definitely satisfy your needs!

MEMORIES: Don't make a sound, don't get caught

The Co-op game mode has a set of fast-paced missions that need to be completed... either on your own or with friends.

The mode was created after Infinity Ward attempted to insert co-op into the main single player campaign mode.

Infinity Ward said that they wanted to keep the two man feeling from 'All Ghillied Up'; to have each others backs and cover each other and work together to complete the objective.

They found that attempting to make single player missions co-op compatible was less fun than a regular single player mode and broke the feeling of immersion they were going for.

From this was born Spec Ops. For those of you who haven't had the chance to drop in and play yet, make sure you do, as it's clear to see how much time was spent trying to perfect the moments and unpredictability with you and your friends.

Multiplayer

The star of the show and the mode that is heavily relied on to either make or break a Call of Duty game - multiplayer.

Having been given two demos for the game, the Alpha and Beta, it was fair to say that we had a good understanding on what was to come with the full launch of the game... which was mostly good things.

We have not been disappointed, and so far so good. Yes, it will take more than a few hours playing time to get a good feel for whether or not the gameplay will become boring or predictable.

However, RealSport feels as though with the amount of objectives and game modes there is to play, from big 10v10 team deathmatches to the 2v2 gun fight, it will be very hard to become bored.

For those wanting a challenge the new pared down "realism" mode will provide just that.

Gameplay

A game can have all the gear to make it look good, such as new features, game modes and achievements, but if it doesn't feel good when being played, then inevitably it will flop.

DON'T MISS: CODs gameplay is still superb

Luckily for the Call of Duty community, the movement mechanics, audio and customizability are all amazing. Infinity Ward took on feedback from its players and made sure to adjust what wasn't liked and keep what was.

No more jet-packing around, just a solid, boots on the ground Call of Duty that reflects on today's issues around the world. The realism factor makes the game just that bit more enjoyable.

The ability to slide and lean allows for players to be more creative when going for multi kills. Expect to see lots of unique gameplay clips online!
