The Elder Scrolls Online is only improving as we go into 2021. ZeniMax Online Studios' MMORPG is set in the fictional realm of Tamriel and gives players the chance to explore the Elder Scrolls world in a unique, expansive way. Greymoor, the latest expansion to be launched for ESO, is almost a year old now. Thankfully, there is more adventure coming to Elder Scrolls Online with the Gates of Oblivion year-long adventure.

The Gates of Oblivion

The Gates of Oblivion is the next year-long adventure coming to The Elder Scrolls Online.

Set 800 years before the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Gates of Oblivion promises an exciting storyline which will focus on the machinations and schemes of the Daedric Prince Mehrunes Dagon.

The Flames of Ambition Dungeon DLC Pack and the Blackwood Chapter Update are the two main content additions coming throughout the year.

However, the Gates of Oblivion promises to bring a number of new in-game events to the title.

The 12-player Rockgrove Trial and numerous Oblivion Portal Worlds Events are both going to be added to Elder Scrolls Online to help round-out the year's new content.

Flames of Ambition Dungeon DLC Pack

Flames of Ambition is the first Dungeon DLC pack coming to ESO as a part of this year's adventure.

Through this, players will begin to uncover the threat Mehrunes Dagon poses to Tamriel and what he has in store for the Elder Scrolls world.

This will tie-in directly with the Blackwood Chapter storyline, but is not integral to understanding it.

KILLING IT - The Flames of Ambition Dungeon DLC pack promises to bring action and adventure!

The Flames of Ambition Dungeon DLC pack is the first major content addition in the Gates of Oblivion adventure for The Elder Scrolls Online.

It is coming to ESO March 8 for PC, Mac, and Stadia Players.

Xbox and PlayStation owners can expect the Dungeon DLC pack March 16.

Blackwood Chapter Update

As an integral part of the Gates of Oblivion year-long adventure, the Blackwood Chapter promises to bring a slew of new updates and additional content to the title.

Alongside side quests and Quality of Life updates, the Blackwood chapter is bringing a brand new 30-hour main storyline to ESO.

This can be played independently from the rest of the game, so it's the perfect place to start if you haven't tried ESO yet.

In this storyline, players will have to contest with a Daedric Prince as they uncover his sinister plans for Blackwood and Tamriel.

With the Imperial City of Leyawiin a central hub to Blackwood, players will be free to explore the area alongside the exciting new questline.

This is just one of the several exciting new, and returning, locations to feature in The Elder Scrolls Online Gates of Oblivion adventure.

Daedric Destruction & Companions

Mehrunes Dagon is the primary antagonist of the Gates of Oblivion adventure and his sinister influence will be present throughout the year's events.

But, this doesn't mean you won't have to do it alone. Even if you're a lone wolf, NPC Companions are coming to ESO as a part of the Blackwood Chapter.

TOGETHER - You don't have to take on Mehrunes Dagon alone with the new Companions feature.

Companions, in previous Elder Scrolls titles, fight alongside the player and can be used to carry items and carry-out a number of in-game tasks.

There is no word on how companions will function in ESO, given the differences between the gameplay of this game and a traditional Elder Scrolls title, however we can't imagine it will be too different.

More To Come?

Although this is all we know for the moment, Bethesda and ZeniMax Online Studios have promised to reveal more information about the content coming later in 2021 nearer the time.

This includes another Dungeon DLC pack which is scheduled to drop Q3, after the Blackwood Chapter update.

There will also reportedly be some form of end-of-year story DLC, although details are slim at the moment regarding that.

New Versions of ESO

Like with any major content addition to Elder Scrolls Online, there is going to be a new version of ESO for the Blackwood Chapter Update.

For newer players, there will be a Base Edition and a Collector's Edition which include ESO, Blackwood, and all the previous Chapters.

This means that with The Elder Scrolls Online Collection, players will get access to the Morrowind, Summerset, Elsweyr, and Greymoor Chapters as well.

For returning adventurers, an Upgrade Version can be purchased. Similarly, there will be a Base Edition and a Collector's Edition.
