FIFA 19 Career Mode: Best cheap high potential left backs (LB)


Left back is one of the hardest positions in the world to sign for, with hardly any top class players available in the transfer market for any sort of reasonable fee. Your best bet on FIFA 19’s Career Mode is to look at some cheap high potential defenders who can blossom into the very best. 

How to choose the best cheap high potential left backs (LBs) in FIFA 19 Career Mode

We are looking at the best cheap high potential left backs (LB) on FIFA 19 Career Mode. We have also included left wing-backs (LWB) in our list. All of these men have a release clause of £5 million or less, with the potential to hit at least 80 on Career Mode. These players can become top class talent, and just require training and playing time to make it to the top.

Gian-Luca Itter (OVR 67 – POT 85)

Club: Wolfsburg

Country: Germany

Best stats: 70 acceleration, 70 dribbling, 69 jumping

Cost: £3 million (release clause)

Wage: £5,000 a week

Gian-Luca Itter came into the Wolfsburg first team last season, making five appearances. The German U19 international has had to be patient this season however, with head coach Bruno Labbadia blessed by the arrival of new signing Jerome Roussillon (OVR 78).

Left back Itter has abilities of 70 acceleration, 70 dribbling and 69 jumping on the game to take him to a 67 overall. His fantastic potential of 85 will cost you a £3 million release clause and wages of £5,000 a week. 

Blas Riveros (OVR 69 – POT 83)

Best stats: 85 acceleration, 84 sprint speed, 84 stamina

Cost: £3.9 million (release clause)

Wage: £7,000 a week

Since leaving his native Paraguay for Basel in 2016, high flying left back Blas Riveros had made over 50 appearances for the club. He made his debut for the national team two years ago, but has had to step back into the U20s to work on his game.

A 69 overall rating for Riveros contains stats of 85 acceleration, 84 sprint speed and 84 stamina. Those can improve as the 20-year-old reaches an 83 potential, meaning you will need to pay £3.9 million and wages of £7,000 a week for the defender. 

Raoul Petretta (OVR 69 – POT 83)

Best stats: 82 acceleration, 77 balance, 76 sprint speed

Cost: £3.9 million (release clause)

Wage: £7,000 a week

Staying at Basel, there is a big challenge for the left back spot between Riveros and Raoul Petretta. The latter has made 40 appearances for the Swiss outfit, but with ten so far this season he looks to have the edge. 

Petretta's abilities of 82 acceleration, 77 balance and 76 sprint speed takes the 21-year-old to a 69 overall. An impressive 83 potential will cost you £3.9 million with wages of £7,000 a week. 

Greg Taylor (OVR 69 – POT 83)

Best stats: 85 aggression, 83 stamina, 81 balance

Greg Taylor has plenty of experience for a player his age, with the 20-year-old churning out 97 appearances for Kilmarnock and a further 12 for Scotland U21s. The defender also has versatility to his game, able to play left back as well as central or left midfield.

On FIFA 19 Taylor comes with a release clause of £4.3 million and a £2,000 a week wage. That will get you his 69 overall and 83 potential so expect a substantial rise to his already impressive stats of 85 aggression, 83 stamina and 81 balance. 

Luca Pellegrini (OVR 65 – POT 83)

Best stats: 75 acceleration, 72 sprint speed, 69 crossing

Cost: £2.1 million (release clause)

Luca Pellegrini has just three appearances for Roma to his name, but given the left back has risen from Italy U16 all the way through to the U21 squad, he has plenty of talent. One assist in his first three Roma games is a promising start, and he was even given his first taste of Champions League action this season, coming on against Viktoria Plzen. 

Pellegrini’s 65 overall holds stats of 75 acceleration, 72 sprint speed and 69 crossing which will rise as he improves to an 83 potential. Just £2.1 million and wages of £4,000 a week are needed to sign him. 

Josha Vagnoman (OVR 61 – POT 83)

Best stats: 80 sprint speed, 76 acceleration, 73 strength

Cost: £1.1 million (release clause)

Wage: £880 a week

After suffering their first ever relegation from the Bundesliga, Hamburg now have the opportunity to give youth a chance in the second tier. Josha Vagnoman could be a player who profits, with the 17-year-old making two appearances in the league this season.

German U19 international Vagnoman can operate at left or right back, and with stats of 80 sprint speed, 76 acceleration and 73 strength he is a real asset. Those abilities take him to a 61 overall, which rise to an 83 potential costing £1.1 million and a £880 starting weekly wage on FIFA 19. 

Stanley N’Soki (OVR 65 – POT 83)

Club: Paris Saint-Germain

Best stats: 70 standing tackle, 68 sliding tackle, 66 sprint speed

Cost: £2.3 million (release clause)

Wage: £5,000 a week

PSG have depth at the back as well as in attack with Stanley N’Soki waiting for his opportunity at the Parc des Princes. The left or centre back has represented the first team five times, competing with Layvin Kurzawa (OVR 79) and new signing Juan Bernat (OVR 76).

On FIFA 19 N’Soki’s 65 overall contains abilities of 70 standing tackle, 68 sliding tackle and 66 sprint speed, which will rise considerably as he approaches an 83 potential. The France U20 international will cost you £2.3 million with a £5,000 a week wage. 

Lloyd Kelly (OVR 67 – POT 83)

Just 22 games into his professional career, Lloyd Kelly is already a regular for England U20s, with six caps to his name. The 20-year-old appeared 14 times for Bristol City last season and is already just two off that so far this year. 

Left or centre back Kelly has a £3.2 million release clause on FIFA 19, and a wage of £5,000 a week. That will get you abilities of 81 sprint speed, 79 acceleration and 74 strength, which build to a 67 overall and 83 potential. 

Ruben Vinagre (OVR 66 – POT 82)

Part of the heavy Portuguese contingent at Wolves, Rueben Vinagre is yet to make his big breakthrough at the club, but has a bright future. He should beat his 14 appearances last season as he already has five starts so far this year, but the impressive early season of the Spanish Jonny (OVR 79) will make it difficult for Vinagre to have a run in the team.

Vinagre, a Portuguese U20 international, has abilities of 89 sprint speed, 87 acceleration and 79 agility to take him to a 66 overall. That can rise to an 82 potential for the 19-year-old, who costs £2.7 million and £6,000 a week in wages. 

Jamal Lewis (OVR 68 – POT 81)

A Northern Ireland international aged 20, Jamal Lewis impressed for Norwich last season. The left back or wing back has 34 games for the club to his name now, which earned him a first international call-up in March 2018. Are we looking at a player destined for the Premier League?

A 68 overall for Lewis can improve to an 81 potential, so his promising stats of 85 stamina, 78 acceleration and 78 sprint speed will improve considerably. You can snap up the Canary for a £3.4 million release clause and wage of £7,000 a week.
