FIFA 19 Career Mode: Contract expiry signings ending in 2022

On FIFA 19’s Career Mode, you need to be savvy. Knowing when certain players’ contract expires can give you the upper hand when in the hunt for pre-contract expiry signings, which allow you to sign players for free when they enter the final six months of their contracts.

RealSport looks at the players whose contract will run out in fourth season (2022) on Career Mode, meaning you can approach them on January 1st, 2022. If they don’t sign new contracts or move clubs before then, you can pounce on a top class player.

Cristiano Ronaldo (OVR 94 – POT 94)

expand image

Age: 33

Positions: ST, LW

Club: Juventus

Country: Portugal

Work rate: High/Low

Best stats: 96 reactions, 95 shot power, 95 composure

Wage: £356,000 a week

The best player on the game starts us off, with Cristiano Ronaldo just joining Juventus in a £99 million move from Real Madrid. The striker or left winger has had a crazy few years, winning four Champions Leagues on the trot, whilst also lifting a La Liga and European Championship during that time.

Ronaldo is now 33, so keep an eye on his skills over the next few seasons with his 94 rating set to drop. His stats of 96 reactions, 95 shot power and 95 composure are incredible, with his wages set at £356,000 a week.

Neymar (OVR 92 – POT 93)

expand image

Age: 26

Positions: LW, CAM

Club: Paris Saint-Germain

Country: Brazil

Work rate: High/Medium

Best stats: 96 agility, 94 reactions, 94 composure

Wage: £255,000 a week

Neymar had a tricky first season with PSG, ending it with injury, but he still walked away with four domestic trophies and the Ligue 1 Player of the Season award. The 26-year-old scored 28 goals in 30 games last season, but he still has some way to go if he is to get to the level of Ronaldo and Messi.

The Brazilian could be the perfect man to sign on a contract-expiry signing with Neymar set to turn 30 when you can sign him for free. His 92 rating can still improve to 93, making him a superb acquisition with attributes of 96 agility, 94 reactions and 94 composure. The left winger or attacking midfielder has wages of £255,000 a week.

Toni Kroos (OVR 90 – POT 90)

expand image

Age: 28

Positions: CM, CDM

Club: Real Madrid

Country: Germany

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best stats: 93 long passing, 92 short passing, 92 long shots

Wage: £312,000 a week

Ronaldo’s former Real Madrid teammate Toni Kroos is one of the most technically gifted players in the world, seemingly able to do anything he wants with the ball, on either foot. The 28-year-old has evolved since he burst onto the scene at Bayern Munich, where he was an attacking or wide midfielder, and now he operates from deeper positions, looking to send killer balls through to the forwards, or strike from range.

93 long passing, 92 short passing and 92 longs shots offer Kroos with a 90 overall rating. Aged 28, his rating shouldn't differ too much over the coming seasons, meaning you will need to fork out for his hefty £312,000 a week wages.

Paulo Dybala (OVR 89 – POT 94)

expand image

Age: 24

Positions: CAM, ST, CF

Club: Juventus

Country: Argentina

Work rate: High/Medium

Best stats: 92 ball control, 92 dribbling, 91 agility

Wage: £189,000 a week

Paulo Dybala will look to learn off Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus, with the 24-year-old yet to determine his role in the team. He holds impressive talent, but is he a number 10, striker or inside forward, with coach Massimiliano Allegri often opting to put him out on the right wing. It’s a big season for La Joya, but can he deliver?

An 89 overall at his age is very impressive, with Dybala holding a potential of 94 to match Ronaldo and Messi. 92 ball control, 92 dribbling and 91 agility will improve over the next four seasons, making Dybala perhaps the best contract expiry signing possible on the game, even with wages starting at £189,000 a week.

Isco (OVR 89 – POT 92)

expand image

Age: 26

Positions: CAM, CM, LW

Club: Real Madrid

Country: Spain

Work rate: High/Medium

Best stats: 95 ball control, 94 dribbling, 90 vision

Wage: £299,000 a week

The technically gifted players just keep coming with Isco just a joy to watch. The 26-year-old is traditionally an attacking midfielder, but with Real Madrid and Spain’s stacked midfield trios, Isco has to conduct from the left wing. With no Ronaldo at the club anymore, expect the playmaker to have an even bigger role at the Bernabeu.

95 control, 94 dribbling and 90 vision give Isco an overall rating of 89, and the 26-year-old can still improve to a 92 potential. Those figures make the former Malaga man a super signing, but you must be patient to move for him and pay his £299,000 a week wages.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen (OVR 89 – POT 92)

expand image

Age: 26

Positions: GK

Club: Barcelona

Country: Germany

Best stats: 90 GK reflexes, 88 GK kicking, 87 GK diving

Wage: £220,000 a week

After Manuel Neuer’s injury hit season and Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s superb campaign, you feel the latter should have been given the Germany goalkeeping spot at the World Cup in Russia. Ter Stegen kept 18 clean sheets last season and had a useful 82% pass accuracy, fitting in with Barcelona’s traditional possession style of play.

Ter Stegen holds a superb 89 overall rating on FIFA 19, and by the time you can sign him on a contract expiry signing, he should have hit his 92 potential. With attributes of 90 GK reflexes, 88 GK kicking and 87 GK diving, Ter Stegen is the perfect man to have in goal.

Lorenzo Insigne (OVR 88 – POT 88)

expand image

Age: 27

Positions: LW

Club: Napoli

Country: Italy

Work rate: High/Medium

Best stats: 94 acceleration, 93 ball control, 93 balance

Wage: £154,000 a week

Some may be shocked to see Lorenzo Insigne’s rating this year, but the Napoli left winger has had a superb couple of seasons in Serie A. Last year, the 27-year-old scored 14 goals and added 14 assists, not quite matching his 20 goals and 12 assists the year before.

The Italian international has stats of 94 acceleration, 93 ball control and 93 balance on the game, providing him with an 88 overall. You are looking at wages of £154,000 a week on Career Mode, which you may be able to negotiate in four years’ time.

Marcelo (OVR 88 – POT 88)

expand image

Age: 30

Positions: LB

Club: Real Madrid

Country: Brazil

Work rate: High/Low

Best stats: 92 ball control, 90 dribbling, 90 crossing

Wage: £273,000 a week

One of the finest left backs the game as ever seen, Marcelo fits Real Madrid’s counter-attacking play perfectly. The Brazilian has the stamina and pace to get up and down the left flank, whether it be whipping balls into the box at one end or denying attackers at the other.

Aged 30, taking Marcelo on in a few years’ time could be a risk, so watch his development closely. His 88 overall will soon drop, so you can’t read too much into his current stats of 92 ball control, 90 dribbling and 90 crossing. His wages of £273,000 will at least be halved by 2020.

Gareth Bale (OVR 88 – POT 88)

expand image

Age: 28

Positions: RW, ST

Club: Real Madrid

Country: Wales

Work rate: High/Medium

Best stats: 95 sprint speed, 93 acceleration, 91 long shots

Wage: £339,000 a week

Injury has got in the way of Gareth Bale from challenging former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona rival Lionel Messi, but with Ronaldo gone from Real Madrid, Bale can really shine. The right winger or striker has been transformed into a superstar in Spain, capped by his bicycle kick in the Champions League final last season. That goal secured his fourth Champions League crown in five years, making him greatest Welsh player of all time.

With Bale now 28, he would be too expensive to buy, but waiting a few years and allowing him to get past his prime would still be a smart signing. His 88 overall may fall slightly, but with stats of 95 sprint speed, 93 acceleration and 91 long shots he will be a serious asset. Be strong in the negotiation process to get his wages down from £339,000 a week.

Hugo Lloris (OVR 88 – POT 88)

expand image

Age: 31

Positions: GK

Club: Tottenham Hotspur

Country: France

Best stats: 92 GK reflexes, 88 GK diving, 85 reactions

Wage: £145,000 a week

We finish with France’s World Cup winning captain and one of the finest goalkeepers in the world, Hugo Lloris. A fantastic sweeper ‘keeper, the only thing missing now from Lloris’ resume, is silverware in England. The Spurs skipper will be determined to put that right before he leaves British shores.

Attributes of 92 GK reflexes, 88 GK diving and 85 reactions add to Lloris’s 88 overall rating, and despite his age of 31, that shouldn’t put you off a move. He will be 35 in 2020, but that isn’t exactly old for a goalkeeper, so he could be still worth a move if you reduce his £145,000 a week wages.
