FIFA 20 had been losing the licensing war for the first time in seemingly forever, with EA Sports losing the rights to the likes of Juventus, and missing out on the Euro 2020 license to PES 2020.

With the French Ligue 1 and now Italian Serie A license shared between the two rivals, as well as partnerships with Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United, it is fair to say that PES publisher Konami have had the better summer.

So, what is the response of EA & FIFA? Well, they have finally announced in a league coming to FIFA 20, but it is not exactly what you would expect.

The Romanian Liga 1 arrives in FIFA 20 this year, meaning Europa League regulars Cluj and Steaua Bucharest (now known as FCSB) will be available in the latest EA release.

With EA having a base in Bucharest, Romania it actually comes as a surprise that they haven’t acquired the Romanian league rights before. Three official FIFA 19 Global Series esports tournaments, including two FUT Champions Cups, took place in Bucharest last year, and this is a natural step for EA to take given their ties there.
