FIFA 22 Liverpool Career Mode Guide: Starting Lineup and Who to sign

Liverpool have one of the best teams in FIFA 22, which will also make them one of the most picked teams to use on Career Mode.

The team has the outright best-rated LB, CB and RB in the game, as well as four players who make the top 20 players in the game.

That is an insane amount of talent, so if you take the manager role you're expected to win it all!

Team Rating

Liverpool have a five-star rating on FIFA 22.

That is broken down into ratings of 86 ATK, 83 MID, and 85 DEF.

Starting Lineup and Formation

Liverpool lines up as a 4-3-3 False 9, and there isn't really much point in looking to change from that.

You could switch to a 4-3-3 Holding if you prefer playing with a more conventional striker, but otherwise, the team pretty much picks itself.

A front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah will overcome any opposition you face.

Playmaker Thiago, workman Jordan Henderson, and CDM maestro Fabinho are the legs in midfield.

Then flying full-backs Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold occupy the flanks in defence, with man-mountain Virgil van Dijk partnered in the centre with pacey Joe Gomez.

Alisson is one of the best goalkeepers in the game, and will bail you out if you need it.

The bench can't really compete with such a strong starting XI, with Diogo Jota being the only one who is good enough to be considered a starter.

Konstantinos Tsimikas can offer you some legs at LB if needed, Divock Origi will hassle defenders, and Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will all work hard in midfield.

New signing Ibrahima Konate makes the cut over Joel Matip, due to his superior speed and potential for the future.

Tactics and Instructions

Defensively you should keep things as they are, set to Press After Possession Loss to swarm the opposition if the ball is turned over.

Offensively, we like to switch things up from the Slow Build Up to Long Ball, in order to get your main threats of Salah and Mane in behind the opposition.

You don't always have to hit it long, but the option is there for you to spring attacks more directly.

Speaking of such things, also switch to Direct Passing to make sure threatening runs are always happening.

Both the full-backs are set to Join The Attack, so it may be worth switching Fabinho's instructions to either Stay Back While Attacking or Drop Between Defenders.

The CDM role is important for building from the back too, so make sure it is kept on Free Roam, so whoever plays in there offers passing options to move the ball on from defence.

Keep both wingers on Get In Behind, with Salah also having Cut Inside so he can take those curling long shots on his left.

If you want to be really offensive, you can also make both wingers Stay Forward, and spring counterattacks with the two of them when you regain possession.

Development Plans

The young players you want to focus on in training are Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Jota, Harvey Elliott, Konate, Curtis Jones, and Neco Williams.

All of them bar Williams have a potential of 85+ OVR, with Williams able to become 82 OVR.

Although both of these players have these as secondary positions, you may want to change Jota to a ST and Elliott to a CM.

Transfer Market

Starting transfer budget: £116 million

Starting wage budget: £642,000 a week

Who should go

There are plenty of players to get rid of, however, none of them will bring in much money.

Say goodbye to Adrian, Loris Karius, Marcelo Pitaluga, James Norris, Morgan Boyes, Tom Clayton, Elijah Dixon-Bonner, and Takumi Minamino, as none of them will get better than 79 OVR.

It may be worth keeping onto Billy Koumetio for a couple of seasons to see if he develops into a decent backup player, with a potential of 78 OVR.

If you can get in better replacements for cheap, you can also get rid of Caoimhin Kelleher, Nathaniel Phillips, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Origi.

Loans

Williams, Curtis Jones, and Elliott could all be loaned out if you want, but they are decent enough to get some minutes in your team every now and then if needed.

Liverpool have quite a few players out on loan, and when they return it's not worth keeping hold of Adam Lewis, Ben Davies, Anderson Arroyo, Leighton Clarkson, Ben Woodburn, Jake Cain, Sheyi Ojo, and Paul Glatzel.

When Rhys Williams and Sepp van den Berg return it could be worth keeping hold of them as they have a potential of 80+ OVR.

Who to Sign

There is one big signing to focus on and that is a world-class striker.

You have the budget, so definitely try to get either Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland.

Mbappe is probably the better choice for this team, as he can play anywhere along the front line, meaning you can rotate players easier.

Then you should look at getting a backup at right-back, with great potential, such as Devyne Rensch.

They won't have better potential than Alexander-Arnold, but you will need someone to fill in for him when the schedule gets tight.

Right-back options

It is then a case of making small investments across the rest of the team to add to your squad depth, with a promising central midfielder needed.

Contracts

There are 11 players who are in the last year of their contract, but you only need to worry about two of them.

As mentioned, van den Berg has decent potential, so it is worth renewing his, and so long as Milner doesn't drop off too much, he will be a good utility player.

Board Expectations

There are three critical expectations from the board, Brand Exposure, Domestic Success, and Continental Success.

Brand Exposure is split into short-term and long-term targets.

The short-term targets ask you to get a streak of 10 home games without defeat and to replace 3 players from the team.

The long-term target we got is to expand the club in North America within two seasons, which can be done by taking part in pre-season competitions in the zone and signing players from there (Alphonso Davies maybe?).

Domestic Success and Continental Success mean the board expects you to win everything - the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.

Low priority Youth Development is also split into Short Term and Long Term tasks.

Short Term will probably be completed through regular signings, where you will need to sign at least 2 players younger than 20 with a potential greater than the average overall rating of players currently in the same position.

Long Term is another easy one to complete, signing a youth player to the senior team and playing them in 5 matches, which can include coming on as a sub.

Finally, there is the low priority Financial target, which is another Long Term goal, where within 2 seasons you must increase your club worth by 15%. You can achieve this through player sales and competition prize money rewards.
