FIFA 23: EA loses ENTIRE league license to Konami

We are beginning to see more news trickle in ahead of FIFA 23 later this year, but most of it has been bad so far!

News of licenses being lost and exclusive deals being lost have surfaced, leaving us wondering how many more teams and leagues we might lose.

Konami has been busy securing deals for eFootball, and the latest exclusive deal will mean EA cannot feature the league at all next season.

Cult classic

Okay, so the league in question this time is the Liga BBVA MX, the highest level of football in Mexico.

The league itself announced the exclusive deal with Konami, confirming its absence from the upcoming FIFA 23 title.

The tweet reads "The LIGA BBVA MX and KONAMI, a leading Japanese video game company, announce a historic exclusivity agreement for the eFootball franchise."

This is not a major league, so the news is not disastrous for EA, however, it won't go down well with the Latin American fans of the game!

There are also some fan favourite players plying their trade in the Mexican top flight, including World Cup enigma Guillermo Ochoa.

Also, who hasn't loved a ridiculously rated Pierre-Andre Gignac or Florian Thauvin either in FIFA Ultimate Team?

What next?

Any loss of a license in FIFA is disappointing, but a full league is a bitter pill to swallow for many fans.

How will EA respond to the setback? We hope that they will secure a new license themselves, preferably a full return to the Brazilian league!

This could be just the start of Konami's plan to take control of Central and South America, similar to the continued growth they have made in Italy.

Whatever happens, we are excited to see how this one plays out.

Milan deal OVER

EA's exclusive partnership with AC Milan is ending this summer, leaving the door open for the Italian giants to jump ship to Konami like several other top Serie A clubs.

Juventus, Atalanta, Lazio, and Roma are all exclusive to Konami's franchise, forcing EA to change the names of the clubs to Piemonte Calcio, Bergamo Calcio, Latium, and Roma FC respectively.

Napoli will also make the switch next season and won't have their licensed badge, kit, or name in FIFA 23, although it is yet to be confirmed what they will be called.

The exclusive deal with rivals Inter remains intact for now, but losing AC Milan would be another major blow to the franchise.
