FIFA 23 Newcastle United Career Mode Guide: Starting Lineup, Who to Sign & more

Big changes have come to Newcastle United, with new owners putting money into the club and Eddie Howe doing a phenomenal job of turning their season around last campaign.

A lot is expected in the future, but for now, there is a rebuilding job to be done at the club in FIFA 23 Career Mode.

Put your skills to the test as you make the Magpies contenders for European spots once again whilst rejuvenating the squad.

Team Rating

Newcastle United has a four-star rating in FIFA 23.

The breakdown of the ratings is as follows: ATT 78, MID 77, DEF 79.

Starting Lineup and Formation

Newcastle line up as a 4-3-3 Flat and we will be keeping it like this, giving a solid platform for the exciting attackers to produce some magic.

On the left wing is Miguel Almiron, with Allan Saint-Maximin on the right, with both offering plenty of pace and trickery.

The only change we've made to the default starters is bringing in Alexander Isak over Callum Wilson as the striker, as he has better stats and greater potential.

The midfield three is full of workhorses, with Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton all powerful all-rounders.

Again, the back line is the best it can be, with Kieran Trippier pulling the strings at right-back, Fabian Schar and Sven Botman in the middle, and Matt Targett at left-back.

Nick Pope is the new man between the sticks, and will likely hold that position for the next few years.

Tactics and Instructions

Once again, we're keeping things as they are in FIFA 23, using a very balanced style both offensively and defensively, letting the team keep its shape and adapt to different oppositions.

All the instructions suit the players well, so the only change we'd make is getting all the midfielders to Cover Center to prevent easy counterattacks.

You could get Saint-Maximin and Isak to Stay Forward, leaving two players up top to try and break quickly if the chance presents itself.

Training

Newcastle has a few players who have great potential and will help take the club to the next level in the future in FIFA 23.

Focus on training up Bruno Guimaraes (POT 86), Botman (POT 86), Isak (POT 85), Elliot Anderson (POT 85), Willock (POT 84) and Saint-Maximin (POT 83), as they can be at the spine of your side as you build around them.

Then, there are the likes of Alex Murphy (POT 80), Sean Longstaff (POT 80), Joelinton (POT 79) and Jamal Lewis (POT 77), who have decent potential to be squad players over the next few seasons.

Who should go?

With no European competition to compete in yet, the schedule shouldn't get too busy for Newcastle, letting you do a massive clear out of players.

Aside from the starting XI, players we've mentioned for training, and Callum Wilson, feel free to get rid of everyone else!

Doing this could nearly double your starting budget, adding around £55 million to the bank.

Loans

Once the clear-out is done you won't want to get rid of too many more players, but look to send Anderson and Murphy out on loan to help them reach their potential.

Newcastle has six players out on loan, and aside from possibly keeping Martin Dubravka as a backup keeper, you can sell all of them upon their return.

Who to Sign

The team needs players added all over the pitch if you plan to be challenging for European competitions, which will probably best be done by adding three first-team players and a couple of promising youngsters each season.

The three new starters we'd look to bring in first would be a winger, left-back and centre-back.

The winger will be an improvement from Almiron and give you options to rotate between three quality players.

Left-back is a clear weakness in the side, and although Targett can do a job, getting better quality will really improve the team.

The final first-team quality player we'd get hold of is a CB, who will partner Botman for years to come.

Then, if you have the budget left over, look to get a future first-team RB to take over from Trippier, and also a promising CM that will be a better rotation player than those currently at your disposal.

Board Expectations

With new owners in town, the board expectations have changed for Newcastle in FIFA 23.

Of high priority is Brand Exposure, where we were asked to sign two players born in North America.

Youth Development is a medium priority and we needed to sign two under-20s with great potential, and also add a goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward to the Youth Academy.

Domestic Success is another medium priority, with the Short Term goal of finishing mid-table in the Premier League and reaching the Semi Final of the FA Cup.

There is also the Long Term goal of finishing in a Europa League spot within two seasons.

Continental Success is a low priority, although it should be very low, as the side isn't in any European competitions!

Then, in a big change for the club, Financial tasks are of very low priority, and the requirement to sell two players and sign two crucial players, finishing the season without any unspent transfer budget, encourages you to build the team - and also shows off how much times have changed since the Mike Ashley era.
