FIFA 23 Spurs Career Mode Guide: Starting Lineup, Who to Sign & more

Spurs are looking stronger than ever under Antonio Conte, so can you improve them further and win some silverware in FIFA 23 Career Mode?

With decent squad depth, some developing talents, and a bigger budget than usual, things are looking on the up at the London-based club, so make the most of this moment while you can!

Team Rating

Spurs has a four-and-a-half star rating in FIFA 23.

The breakdown of the ratings is as follows: ATT 84, MID 81, DEF 79.

Starting Lineup and Formation

Spurs have been moulded into the Conte style of a 5-2-3, and we will stick with this formation as it suits many of the players.

We're sticking with the forward three of Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane and Heung Min Son, with Lucas Moura and Richarlison giving great options off the bench or if you need to rotate Kulusevski.

The duo in midfield is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Yves Bissouma, who we have picked over Rodrigo Bentancur as he is quicker and gives better defensive protection.

The wing-backs in the side will be vital to how the team plays, with Emerson Royal roaming the right flank and new signing Ivan Perisic brought in on the left instead of Ryan Sessegnon.

We've stuck with the back three of Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies, although Davinson Sanchez could be brought in over Dier if you prefer to use someone quicker.

Hugo Lloris is obviously the man between the posts and is still one of the best-rated keepers in the game.

Tactics and Instructions

As we're keeping the Conte style, the tactics will stay the same.

This will mean playing a bit deeper and inviting teams onto you, but that allows space in behind to attack.

If you can't catch teams on the counter, then the Balanced build up play and chance creation will provide varying options for breaking down the opposition.

Kane will be left to play as a False 9, however, if you don't like this, switch his attacking runs to Mixed Attack and tell him to Stay Central and to maximise his chances of having a sight on goal.

Son is told to Cut Inside and Get Into The Box For Cross, and we've added Stay Forward to his defensive support to help catch people out on the break.

Kulusevski keeps his Free Roam instruction to provide passing options, which will mean both wingers leaving the flanks to create space for the wing-backs.

As ever, get the midfielders to Cover Center rather than wide to protect the middle of the park in transition, with Bissouma also set to Stay Back While Attacking.

Both wing-backs are told to Join The Attack and Overlap, playing a vital role in creating chances.

The left CB (in this case Davies), is also instructed to Overlap, and this will provide another body in midfield to help control possession.

Development Plans

There are a few players in need of a position change to get the most out of them in-game, with Hojbjerg and Bissouma worth switching to CMs (or you could adjust the formation so the role is for a CDM instead).

We would also switch Japhet Tanganga to a CB as we think that is where his best football can be played and the side already has decent options at RWB.

Training

This Spurs side has loads of players with decent potential in FIFA 23, so make sure you get them on the training ground to fulfil it!

Romero (POT 88), Bryan Gil (POT 86), Bissouma (POT 86), Hojberg (POT 85), Richarlison (POT 84), Oliver Skipp (POT 84), Djed Spence (OVR 84), Sessegnon (POT 83), Bentancur (POT 83), Alfie Devine (POT 83), Pape Sarr (POT 82), Tanganga (POT 82) and Emerson Royal (POT 82) can all play a part in this side for years.

Transfer Market

Starting budget: £99 million

Who should go?

Spurs have a large squad but there are definitely upgrades needed to take it to the next level in FIFA 23.

This will require a delicate balancing act over the first season to offload players that you don't see a future with, whilst also bringing in replacements so you aren't left short of first-team quality, and taking into account players that are on or out on loan.

As long as this is done correctly, we think that Bentancur, Dier, Sanchez, Davies and Matt Doherty can be sold, which should bring in around another £90 million to play with.

Then you can also get rid of Harvey White (POT 78), Jamie Bowden (POT 75), Brookyln Lyons-Foster (POT 73) and Brandon Austin (POT 72), all youngsters who won't improve enough to get in the side.

Loans

You can look to send out Devine and Sarr on loan, but we wouldn't advise anyone other than them.

Spurs have nine players out on loan, with five of them great additions to the squad.

Dane Scarlett (POT 85) is definitely one for the future, as is Destiny Udogie (POT 82).

Then there are the first-team quality players of Reguilon, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele who, on their return, should either be used in your squad or sold if you see no future with them.

Joe Rodon (POT 80) is worth keeping an eye on in case you need a backup CB, but Troy Parrott (POT 80), Harry Winks (POT 78) and Alfie Whiteman (POT 70) can all be sold when they return.

Who to sign?

The first place this Spurs squad needs to improve is at CB.

Although they have many options in the area, and a couple of good prospects there, most of the players are very average.

Investing in one or two promising CBs that are also better than the current crop is the main aim of the first transfer window.

Josko Gvardiol is our top target as a left-footer who is comfortable with the ball at his feet, so can play that overlapping CB role, and he would be a massive improvement from Davies.

Transfer Targets (CB)

We would also advise investing in a young goalkeeper with high potential to replace Lloris, although that can be done a season or two down the line.

If you have the funds a box-to-box CM and a player that can play RW, ST and LW would also be worth getting hold of.

Board Expectations

You will have to keep an eye on all your board expectations as manager of Spurs as they are a demanding bunch on FIFA 23!

Brand Exposure is the most important one for your popularity with the board as they see it as critical to the success of the club, and on our save we needed to sign a veteran player and get five wins in cup matches.

Of high priority are Domestic Success and Continental Success, where you will need to finish in a Champions League place in the Premier League, win the FA Cup, and reach the semi-final of the Champions League.

Youth Development and Financial targets are a medium priority, which should be easily completed by adding to your Youth Academy and increasing your club's worth, tasks that are usually fulfilled without much thought.
