RealSport101 FIFA Advent Calendar - Day 1

RealSport101 Advent Calendar

Throughout December, we will be taking a look back at some of our favourite players from previous FIFA games.

Our advent calendar series won't just provide a sense of great nostalgia for us, but it should also unlock your memories for some of the best OP stars FIFA has ever seen.

RealSport101 Advent Calendar - Day 1

We're kick-starting this Ultimate Team throwback with a star that will be remembered fondly as one of the most overpowered cards ever since in Ultimate Team.

He's German, he's rapid and he's certain to give us fever-dream nightmares about having to defend against one of his mazy runs.

Sidney Sam - FIFA 15

Whilst some cards mentioned in this series are commonly accepted as incredibly overpowered, Sidney Sam was one that fell under the radar.

Due to the likes of Arjen Robben being a stronger option in his position, this German winger never quite got the respect he deserved, but we want to change that.

SUPER SIDNEY - This FIFA 15 card was truly devastating

A forward who scored over 150 goals in just shy of 200 games for our Ultimate Team, Sam was a player that you could also rely on to produce something spectacular.

In the halcyon days of FIFA 15, Sidney Sam was an immediate go-to, guaranteeing goals with his deadly left foot.

Sometimes you just find a player that suits your playstyle and fits your team perfectly, and Sidney Sam was exactly that man for us in Ultimate Team.

What Happened to Sidney Sam?

The ever-changing career of Sidney Sam certainly makes for interesting reading, with the 5-time capped German international traversing the first and second tier of the Bundesliga before heading to Austria and Turkey.

Now retired, Sam spent his final year at Turkish club Antalyaspor in 2020-21, before making the decision to retire at the end of the season.

A short trip to his Instagram shows that Sidney Sam is now doing a little bit of TV punditry, whilst also graduating with a degree in Sport Management.

The man is a FIFA legend and we sincerely hope he's enjoying retirement, even if we are missing his devastating pace in our Ultimate Team.
