With the launch of Genshin Impact 2.3 just some hours away, miHoYo have posted their traditional teaser of the upcoming new content.
Shenhe and Yun Jin have been confirmed as the two new characters coming in Genshin Impact 2.4, two new polearms users and inhabitants of Liyue.

With this announcement, here's what to expect from the new Genshin Impact 2.4 banners.
Release Date
Based on the 6 weeks cycle of every patch, Genshin Impact 2.4 is arriving on January 5, 2022.
The six weeks cycle is divided into two parts, with three different banners per patch.
New Batch of Hot Re-runs
Genshin Impact is releasing characters based on the story and the dates when the banners are arriving.
During Halloween, we received the re-run of Hu-Tao, a Director of a Funeral Parlor that uses spirits as part of her abilities, and Childe was a protagonist of the most significant event in Genshin Impact 2.2
In Genshin Impact 2.3, the story is coming back to Dragonpsine, and the two characters featured in the first banners are Albedo and Eula, characters in which part of their stories takes place in this region.
Xiao and Ganyu Banners
The second Banner of Genshin Impact 2.4 will arrive on January 26, 2021, during the Lantern Rite, returning the action to Liyue.
Xiao was a prominent protagonist of last year's Lantern Rite, the reason why we can speculate he will be a feature in the first banner along with Ganyu, the half Liyue's Adeptus.
Weapon Banner
With three possible Polearm users coming in Genshin Impact 2.4, and all of them being inhabitants of Liyue, it is the perfect time for the return of Lithic Spear.
Lithic Spear is a 4-star polearm, a great weapon which potential is fully achieved when you have more Liyue characters in your team.
In the case of 5-star weapons, it is most likely to see the Primordial Jade Winged-Spear signature weapon of Xiao for the first banner and Shenhe tailor-made polearm that she is carrying in her splash art.
New Characters Banners
Genshin Impact 2.4 first half banner will go live on January 5, 2021, just before receiving a new region.
This banner will feature the two new characters:
- Shenhe 5-star Cryo Polearm User. She is the best student of the Cloud Retainer (Adeptus).
- Yun Jin 4-star Geo Polearm User is a musician that likes elaborate costumes and occasional rock gigs.
Shenhe
Shenhe comes from a branch family of a clan of exorcists. The Cloud Retainer, an Adeptus who seem to, despite humans, surprisingly takes her as her disciple.
Her character design resembles the one of the Cloud Retainer. Therefore, we can expect Shenhe to be a combination of Physical attacks and Elemental spells.
Yun Jin
Polearm Impact or Genshin Geo? Well, developers decided to give Yun Jin, the director of the Yun Han Opera Troupe, a Geo Vision.
Genshin Impact suggests even more that Geo will be the next element meta with the new artifacts, Husk of Opulent Dreams, and the re-run of Albedo, Noelle, who will benefit grandly from this new set.
Besides, 3 of the last 5 new characters are going to be Geo. This includes Itto, Gorou, and now Yun Jin.
Polearm Impact
Three of the last five new characters will be Polearm users, Thoma, Shenhe, and Yun Jin.
This situation will complicate the distribution of this weapon in players' rosters, despite there being plenty of good Gacha and F2P options.
