Who doesn't love an underdog story? This is one of those stories, the tale of Genshin Impact's most important team; the National Team, a squad that changed the way Travelers understand the game and continues to influence the Genshin Impact meta from its inception to the upcoming Version 4.4 update.

The Chinese community coined the term National Team to describe a powerful team accessible to all players with only 4-star characters and free weapons.

Even though the National Team has evolved to add new members and branch out into new teams, all compositions keep the same play style. Therefore, here is our Genshin Impact 2.6 guide to National Teams.

Genshin Impact National Team

There is a big difference in power on paper if we compare 5-star characters with the more F2P-friendly 4-stars.

Most teams are built by investing all resources in one strong character and gathering teammates that boost their abilities. So, what happens if instead, you pick four different characters with great synergy?

You get the National Team, a low-cost composition that can clear all content in Genshin Impact. A quick swap party, whose rotation consists of characters entering the battlefield, dropping their skills, and switching until no more enemies are left, the National Team is a perfectly capable composition.

The original National Team members are, Xiangling (Pyro), Xingqiu (Hydro), Bennett (Pyro), and Chongyu (Cryo) - but that's evolved plenty over time.

National Team Compositions

The Original National is still an excellent starter team for beginners.

Investing in the characters from this team will have big payouts in their accounts, even if the player decides to create new squads, except for Chongyu, a character displaced by the introduction of better units.

If we analyze National Team element synergy, the team relies on the Vape-Melt reactions from Xiangling's Pyronado and Xingqiu's outfield burst.

That is why it is hard to replace, the core members of Genshin Impact National Team, so most of the variations depend on the character used instead of Chongyun.

  • Main DPS: Xianling (Pyro)
  • Sub-DPS: Xingqiu (Hydro)
  • Support/Healer: Bennett (Pyro)
    • Bennett is a high-demand character, so players sometimes include Sucrose.
  • Fourth Member: Rosaria, Ayato, Kaeya, Raiden Shogun, Childe.

National Team Variations

  • Rational
    • This is one of the most popular teams in the game, especially in the first chambers of the spiral abyss.
      • Main DPS: Xiangling (Pyro)
      • Sub DPS: Xingqiu (Hydro)
      • Elemental Enabler/Healer: Bennett (Pyro)
      • Support: Raiden Shogun.
  • International
    • This team's name comes from the inclusion of Childe from Snezhnaya and Kazuha from Inazuma.
      • Main DPS: Childe (Hydro)
      • Sub DPS: Xiangling (Pyro)
      • Elemental Enabler: Xingqiu (Hydro)
      • Support: Kazuha (Anemo)
  • Kamisato National
    • This is one of the best teams for the brand new Kamisato Ayato.
      • Main DPS: Kamisato Ayato (Hydro)
      • Sub DPS: Xiangling (Pyro)
      • Elemental Enabler: Xingqiu (Hydro)
      • Support: Bennett (Pyro)

National Team Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Accessible to all players and the team is viable in the initial content and can take you all the way to clear the spiral abyss.
  • The team is a very low-cost investment team, viable with F2P weapons.
  • As most of the members are 4-star characters, it is very easy to get constellations that will exponentially increase the power of the team.
  • The game remains relevant as it combines burst damage, big AoE attacks, and healing.
  • Players don't have to worry about getting perfect combos, there is room for error.

Weaknesses

  • Without Raiden Shogun, the team might run into Energy Recharge issues.
  • The range is relatively short compared with teams with a catalyst user.
