It's been a long time coming, but Genshin Impact is finally coming to PS5! Here's everything you need to know about the new version of the game and the new title update (also dropping today!)

LATEST - Update Release Time

The team behind Genshin Impact, miHoYo, has confirmed the release time for the upcoming version 1.5 patch in a recent blog post.

The update is due to release at 06:00 UTC+8 on April 28th. This means it will start at 18:00 EST / 23:00 BST.

In a similar fashion to the other major Genshin Impact title updates of this size, downtime is going to be pretty major. miHoYo is estimating that it will take around five hours, meaning that Genshin Impact 1.5 will not be available until 23:00 EST / 04:00 BST (April 28).

If you're just seeing this now, too, you can actually pre-load the update right now! This will save you some time in the morning if you're planning on just giving Genshin a break while it gets updated.

Release Date

The PS5 version of Genshin Impact will be launching on April 28th, the same date as the upcoming 1.5 update, which will feature new characters Eula and Yanfei, a housing system and many more additions to the game.

What To Expect

Genshin Impact has been drastically improved from a visual standpoint for the next-gen port.

The new version will feature up to 4K resolution, improved frame rates, new graphic details due to using a new graphics engine, and loading will be nearly instant, thanks to the PS5's incredibly fast NVME SSD drive.

In a blog post, Sony laid out everything we can expect from the next-gen port.

"We created a graphics library completely from the ground up, and we built a customized file-loading system to take advantage of the powerful SSD of the PS5."

It is great to see miHoYo ensuring that the PS5 version does the game justice and improves upon the PS4 version in every way, incentivising players to make the switch to the next-gen system.

"The all-new graphics library allows us to pack even more details into the game world. Look closely at your surroundings, and the high-res texture will tell you a unique story in every tiny detail; raise your eyes to the horizon, and the enhanced Level of Detail distance will bring you an impressive view of landmarks near and far. Even better, the PlayStation 5 allows you to run all these details in native 4K resolution. If you have an HDR display, with our HDR support, you can enjoy an even more vibrant look at the world"

NVME drives are becoming increasingly popular due to their incredible speeds, often up to 8x faster than a standard SSD drive for a very similar price.

The PS5 comes equipped with one, which is how we see some games, such as Miles Morales, have no loading times, allowing for seamless transitions between gameplay and cutscenes.

"Genshin Impact features massive and changing landscapes. So when you traverse the open-world and domains, faster loading will make your adventure so much smoother. With the PlayStation 5’s SSD and our tailor-made file-loading system, teleporting from one place to another now takes just seconds. You can jump right into domains almost instantaneously, ready to explore and fight!"

The PS5's DualSense controller is a huge selling point for the system, bringing lots of new features that have never been seen before including 3D audio, Haptic Feedback, Adaptive Triggers and more.

Most of these will be utilized in Genshin Impact to give an immersive experience to players.

"But to truly approach the next-gen experience, we realize the DualSense controller will be a game-changer by showing how the game world responds to your actions within. The DualSense controller adopts very different technologies, and we’re still redesigning the controller support from scratch to explore it’s full potential. You may notice that the controller vibration feels different from that in the backward-compatible version of the game. We can’t wait to integrate even more of the controller’s features to better reflect your immersive experience in Teyvat."
