Genshin Impact Subdetection Unit Locations & Best Farming Route

With the long-awaited map expansion in Genshin Impact Version 4.1, new Ascension materials become available for players to collect for their favourite characters. One such material is the Subdetection Unit, crucial for ascending the mighty Administrator of the Fortress of Meropide, Wriothesley, who has received his first banner in Version 4.1 Phase 2.

The Subdetection Unit is a local speciality of Fontaine, shaped like a mechanical beetle. As per its item description, these "Detection units" were produced by the Fontaine Research Institute using new models of artificed components. Its original purpose was to monitor all kinds of environmental data. Here’s a Subdetection Unit farming guide to help you plan your farming route!

Subdetection Units are primarily found in the Fontaine Research Institute of Kinetic Energy Engineering Region.

There are currently 64 Subdetection Units in the wild. As is customary, the Subdetection Unit respawns after 48 hours.

Originally, these units were collaboratively managed by the Advanced Artificed Technology Research and Development Department and the Natural Ecological Environment Monitoring Department. The former handled the manufacturing and deployment of the detection units, while the latter was responsible for collecting and sorting data.

However, following a prior experimental accident, the latter department has been disbanded, leaving only the responsibilities of the former department to be handled by the Fontaine Research Institute.

In terms of appearance, Subdetection Units bear a striking resemblance to the Scarabs found in the Sumeru desert. Thankfully, farming Subdetection Units is a relatively simpler task. They emit a blue light, but when you enter their proximity, these units start blinking red instead.

You can discover Subdetection Units scattered across the Liffey Region and Fontaine Research Institute of Kinetic Energy Engineering Region.

To begin your Subdetection farming route, we recommend teleporting to the Teleport Waypoint at Mount Esus East. From there, head West towards the southern coast of the Fontaine Research Institute region, then proceed north towards the Central Laboratory Ruins. Afterwards, make a U-turn towards the Liffey Region Mountains.

For the southeasternmost Subdetection Units in the Fontaine Research Institute region, you'll need to dive into the lake and locate them in an underwater tunnel.

What to use Subdetection Units on

Subdetection Units serve as a character ascension material. Players will need 168 Subdetection Units to fully ascend Wriothesley. You can collect 72 Subdetection Units in the wild. Afterwards, you'll need to wait for them to respawn, which takes two days, or 48 hours.
