The Last Of Us remake is in development

The Last Of Us series is one of the most beloved in gaming, with both games being some of the top sellers on the PS3 and PS4.

A remaster of The Last Of Us 1 was released early into the PS4's lifecycle, followed by the release of The Last Of Us 2 in 2020, which has since become the most awarded game of all time.

The Last Of Us 2 really stepped things up in terms of graphics and immersion and it seems that Sony are looking at bringing the original game up to those same standards, even exceeding them with a remake of The Last Of Us to release exclusively on PlayStation 5.

A Secret TLOU Remake

According to a Bloomberg report, a team of 30 developers secretly began work on a remake of the smash-hit The Last Of Us.

The remake was created with the intention of it being released exclusively on PlayStation 5, ushering the series into the next generation.

But, for some reason, Sony never achknowledged the existence of the studio or the remake which resulted in them not receiving funding for the project.

Eventually, Sony took the remake from the new development studio and handed it over to Naughty Dog, a Sony-owned studio that created the series.

Although nothing has been said by Sony regarding the remake, this report confirms its existence and that it is likely still in development.

With a seven-year gap between the first two games, it is likely that we won't be seeing The Last Of Us 3 for a very long time, so a remake of the original game could be a smart move by Sony to help keep interested in the game, and also urge players who have only played TLOU2 to check out the beginning of the story.

An HBO series is currently being produced, signalling that The Last Of Us is far from over, releasing the remake alongside the series would be a great move as many viewers won't have experienced the game.

Nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet, but with the cat out of the bag we imagine that Sony will be looking to make an official announcement soon, perhaps at E3?
