Madden 20 Ratings: All the best centers (C) in franchise mode (PS4 & Xbox One)

We often overlook offensive linemen when it comes both to the NFL and to Madden, and that is a mistake.

The likes of Patrick Mahomes and Ezekiel Elliott can't perform their magic with no blocking in front of them, and stopping Aaron Donald isn't easy.

Key to an offensive lines success is the center. They not only snap the ball but are often the communication hub before the play starts. They spot blitzers, organize who blocks who, and makes sure everyone is on the same page as the quarterback and the running back. It is a vital position to how football functions, and having a quality player there is all-important in Madden 20.

Travis Frederick, Dallas Cowboys (94 OVR)

Age: 28

Best Stats: Awareness (96), Run Block Finesse (96), Run Block (95), Impact Block (95), Strength (93), Lead Block (93), Run Block Power (93), Pass Block Power (93), Pass Block (91) 

The Dallas Cowboys were roundly panned for taking Travis Frederick in the first round of the 2013 pick, but they are the ones laughing now. Since arriving Frederick has started every game until the 2018 season and made the kind of impact only a world class player can. He was named First Team All-Pro in 2016 and has been a four-time Pro Bowler.

In Madden 20 Frederick has superb awareness (96) to spot blitzes and stunts, with the run block (95) to dominate even the best nose tackles. His strength (93) underpins everything he does, but his finesse (run 96, pass 87) is good too. His pass block (91) is far from a weakness.

Jason Kelce, Philadelphia Eagles (94 OVR)

Jason Kelce is a true success story. As a sixth-round pick in 2011, not a lot was expected of him, but he started every game as a rookie and by 2014 won a spot in the Pro Bowl. His mobility and refined technique made him a coaches dream and he has been named to the last two First Team All-Pro sides.

Kelce is a brutal run blocker (98) with his finesse (run 98, pass 90) the best part of his game. His awareness (98) is next level, with his lead block (94) also vital. He isn't the strongest (85) so a big nose tackle will cause some problems, but on screens he can be a steamroller.

Rodney Hudson, Oakland Raiders (93 OVR)

Rodney Hudson was drafted in the second round of the 2011 draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He played there for 4 years, winning the starting job at center in his second season. As a free agent Hudson signed a massive deal with the Oakland Raiders and stepped up his game there, becoming a Pro Bowler in 2016.

In Madden 20 Hudson is an impressive pass blocker (94) with power (96) his best trait. His run block (84) is a weakness but still serviceable. Hudson's lead block (92) and impact block (91) are very good, making him deadly on screens.



Alex Mack, Atlanta Falcons (89 OVR)

Alex Mack was a first-round pick for the Cleveland Browns in 2009 and started immediately. He was quickly one of their best players and one of the best centers in the NFL. He made the Pro Bowl in 2010 and again in 2013 & 2015 as a Brown before moving to Atlanta, where he made a Super Bowl and has been a Pro Bowler in all three seasons.

Mack has superb awareness (95) and has the impact block (94) to move people immediately. His run block (93) is his best stat, with good strength (92) and finesse (94) to help shift even the biggest nose tackles.

Matt Paradis, Carolina Panthers (88 OVR)

Age: 29

Best Stats: Awareness (94), Strength (90), Pass Block Finesse (89), Impact Block (88), Pass Block (86), Lead Block (85), Run Block Finesse (85), Pass Block Power (84)

Matt Paradis was a sixth-round pick for the Denver Broncos in 2014 and didn't play a snap as a rookie, but by 2015 he was a starter in the middle for the Broncos and in 2016 settled into the center job and provided quality play. In 2019 he signed a free agent deal with the Panthers.

Paradis' awareness (94) is extremely high and will help keep his line on top of blitzes. He has good strength (90) and is a solid pass blocker (86). His impact block (88) is good but his run block (82) is a little lower than ideal.

Brandon Linder, Jacksonville Jaguars (86 OVR)

Brandon Linder was a third-round pick for the Jaguars in 2014 and started at the right guard spot as a rookie. In 2016 he moved to center and has seen a good bump in his performance from there. He only played 9 games in 2018 as injuries hit the Jags line.

In Madden 20 Linder is very balanced. His run block (88) and pass block (87) are not elite, but he has the strength (89) to play with big defensive tackles and his impact (86) and lead (86) block are solid too. His awareness (86) isn't as high as you'd like but Linder doesn't have any holes in his game.

Maurkice Pouncey, Pittsburgh Steelers (85 OVR)

Age: 30

A first-round pick in 2010, Maurkice Pouncey was a day 1 starter for the Steelers and made the Pro Bowl as a rookie. In 2011 he made the First Team All-Pro despite playing just 14 games. After missing almost all of the 2013 season he returned to the All-Pro team in 2014 and has been a consistent presence in one of the best lines in the NFL.

Pouncey doesn't have terrific run (83) or pass (83) block in Madden 20, but his awareness (91) is high and his impact block (92) will protect him from big nose tackles. He has the strength (91) to play well and use power (pass 85, run 84) in his blocks.
