Scars Above - Release date & everything we know

Scars Above is finally here, and it has certainly made a splash, with fantastic gameplay and incredible visuals for an AA game. The sci-fi adventure game will appeal to both fans of a rich single-player campaign, and Metroidvania fans alike.

If you were a fan of Returnal, or games like it, then Scars Above is one title you need to keep an eye on in 2023.

Scars Above release date & platforms

Scars Above is set for release on Tuesday, 28 February provided that there are no last-minute delays. Q1 of 2023 is already looking pretty stacked and Scars Above will hope to stand out amongst the crowd of titles that includes Hogwarts Legacy, Wild Hearts, Destiny 2: Lightfall and Star Wars: Jedi Survivor.

You can find the game on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC. For those who wish to play it on PC, it appears that it will only be available on Steam at launch as there is no listing currently on the Epic Games Store.

Gameplay Preview

We were lucky enough to get our hands on Scars Above during Gamescom 2022 and even included it in our 'Best in Show' list. We were impressed with not only the graphical fidelity (we played it on PS5) but just about every aspect of the gameplay was impressive.

The general gunplay which then evolved with elemental combat all the way through to the level structure which had real Metroidvania inspirations of 'come back here when you've found a certain item'.

While what we played was just a small slice of the game, it left us wanting more and it's great to know that we won't have to wait too long to play the full experience.
