In a bit of surprise news, Kingdom Hearts 4 has officially been announced. Given the last one only released a few years ago, this is a bit of a surprise but certainly not an unwanted one. Unfortunately, we have seen no news of a release date yet. Here's what we know about it so far.
Kingdom Hearts 4 Release Date?
Announced at the Kingdom Hearts 20th anniversary event, Kingdom Hearts 4 has been officially announced and is on the way. It is currently in active development and plans to advance Sora's story even further. This being said, we didn't receive any confirmation of a release date or even a release window.
It seems likely we won’t see Kingdom Hearts 4 in 2022. We may not even see it in 2023. To get a good guess of when we may see the next game, we will have to look at the last one.
How long did Kingdom Hearts 3 take?
Kingdom Hearts 3 released back in 2019, after being officially announced at E3 2013. Despite this, many knew the game was planned for years beforehand. The announcement of Kingdom Hearts 4 was a little bit more of a surprise, especially so close to the release of the last game.
Given the long development cycle of the previous game, it seems likely that they are aiming for a smaller window this time around. If we had to guess, we imagine we could see Kingdom Hearts 4 by 2023 but it could take another year or two after that. It seems likely we will see some more information over the coming year.
