Chelsea: Will £90m be enough for PSG to prize away N’Golo Kante?

L’Equipe are reporting that PSG sporting director Antero Henrique is making N’Golo Kante the clubs prime transfer target this summer as they look to improve their midfield strength.

The two-time Premier League winner is currently in Russia with the France squad but will be well aware of the reports linking him to French champions PSG.

Kante is known for his superb defensive qualities and stamina and would no doubt solidify PSG’s midfield.

How much will he cost?

£90 million is reportedly the price that Chelsea are putting on their star midfielder and that figure is nearly three times the amount they paid for his services from Leicester City just two summers ago.

However, with the departure of Nemanja Matic last summer, Chelsea will be left without a world-class defensive midfielder. This would severely harm their chances of contending for honours and a replacement would be needed urgently.

So while £90 million seems a good price, the chances of Chelsea finding a replacement of his quality are slim at best.

Why would Chelsea sell?

While it is very understandable, why teams are looking at Kante as a transfer target, it would surprise to see Chelsea actually go through with a sale - such is the importance of the French midfielder to their team.

With their managerial position still up in the air, Chelsea would be foolish to sell someone like Kante as it would severely weaken their new manager's team.

The only way selling Kante makes sense, is if they appoint Maurizio Sarri and he does not fit into his plans.

But realistically, Chelsea are unlikely to part with their star midfielder unless a ridiculous offer comes in or Kante himself wants to leave the football club.
