England: Harry Kane will win the World Cup Golden Boot

He may hold the weight of a nation on his shoulders, but Harry Kane is currently not showing it as he has already netted five goals for the three lions.

In round one he netted two hugely important goals against Tunisia, including the last minute winner. And last time out he netted three goals against Panama, with two stunning penalties and a rather flukey deflection that beat the keeper.

Either way, Kane is on course to win the golden boot and here are the reasons why:

Club form

Harry Kane is a goal machine. Simply put, he knows where the net is and he is clinical. His goals vary from stunning to simple.

He really has everything you could ever want from a striker.

For Spurs, he has quickly risen into being the best striker in the Premier League. Last season he netted 41 goals in 48 games. The season before that he scored 35 goals in 38 games.

Over the last two years, there is no striker in Europe beyond Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo who can boast such statistics while playing for a side that is not the best in their respective country.

International form

Since he captained England for the first time last summer against Slovenia, Kane has not stopped scoring for his country.

13 goals in eight games is a sublime return since taking the armband and it seems that Kane has relished that responsibility.

Five goals at the World Cup have put him in pole position to win the golden boot. It also has him just one goal behind the England record for goals at a World Cup, Gary Lineker had six in 1986.

England’s path

The most important thing a player needs to win the golden boot is enough games to score in. A side needs to be successful if they are to have the top scorer.

England are projected by most to get to the quarter-final and after that, it seems to be a lottery as to who can progress further.

That gives Harry Kane probably three games to add to his tally, and if he can keep scoring at his current pace surely no other player could catch him.

And if you look at the other players he is competing with, he should not be scared. Romelu Lukaku is just behind him but is carrying a knock and may not play against England.

Cristiano Ronaldo has four goals but missed a penalty last time out and Portugal have struggled to score since their opening three-goal performance against Spain.

Diego Costa does not seem to fit into the Spain system though he has looked a threat in every game.

And finally, Neymar has only found the net just once for a Brazil side that is floundering.

Harry Kane is in pole position to top the charts and with his current form, it is hard to bet against him.
