It used to be the case that the January transfer window was a fairly staid affair, used exclusively to respond to injury crises or, in the worst case scenario, adding players in a bid to stave off relegation.
This year, though, saw unprecedented levels of expenditure in the Premier League with £150 million being spent on deadline day, taking the overall outlay of the month to £430 million.
With so much money being spent, it was unsurprising to see a wealth of talent brought into the highest league of English football.
