Next-Gen: 'Holiday 2020' Launch Is Unrealistic: PS5, Xbox Series X, Delay, Release Date

The highly anticipated Xbox Series X and PS5 are set to release later this year, but with the current circumstances, it seems unlikely.

COVID-19 has caused a lot of disturbance throughout the world, and the gaming industry is no exception.

Most games releasing within the next few months have been pushed back, but we haven’t heard anything from Sony or Microsoft regarding a delay.

Xbox Series X

The Xbox Series X will have the best specs of any console in history, even beating the PS5.

THE BEST YET - The Xbox Series X will run games much faster and smoother than previous generations.

This has fans extremely hyped for the next console with
releases like Halo Infinite to release on the next ground-breaking console.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely to release this side of December due to Coronavirus and is more likely to be pushed back to December 2020 or possibly 2021.

There isn’t a lot Microsoft can do if we are still in
lockdown by the time the release date rolls around, but we’ll have to wait and
see.

PlayStation 5

Again, the PS5 is likely to release closer to 2021 than expected.

A LIBRARY LIKE NO OTHER - The PS5 will have an amazing array of exclusives!

However, the PS5 is in a slightly different situation. A large selling point of both the PS4 and the PS5 is the exclusives available.

Games like Horizon Zero Dawn 2 and God of War 2 are likely to release on this next-gen console. But without the platform, this is unlikely to happen.

This kind of pressure from developers and key stakeholders
could push Sony to release their console sooner rather than later.

Other Games

We already know of The Last of Us II being delayed due to Coronavirus. There is a possibility this could start a trend for other games and developers.

However, PC games are unlikely to be delayed due to their ‘non-physical’ format and are available on platforms such as Steam and Origin.

We’ll have to wait and see how the pandemic grows and how developers
choose to tackle the upcoming challenges.
