An official blog post on Blizzard's website detailed the price reduction for this legendary skin in Overwatch 2.
With a host of other free content being released in the Winter Wonderland event, this is very close to free.
The skin is only costing players one Overwatch coin. Even players who don't have a coin can earn them for free by completing challenges.
Blizzard provided fans with little to no reason as to why they were doing this.
Perhaps they are avoiding the controversy that fans feel about the price of items in-game.

Gingerbread Bastion Unlock Dates in Overwatch 2
The post made it very clear that this offer will only be available for a certain amount of time.
Pricing of one coin started yesterday, December 20, 2022, and will be available until January 2 2023.
