Metal Gear Solid is still a big name player in gaming and it has been a huge part of many gamers' formative years so an MGS remake for modern PlayStation consoles - including the PS5 - is something people have wanted for a long time.

Players have hoped it will show up at PlayStation Showcase events or State of Play streams in 2021, but we've had no luck as of yet so we're looking towards the next big stream of 2022 for a possible update. Here's the latest news on it.

Latest - Could it show at the State of Play event?

After the rumour mill went quiet following the PlayStation Showcase in 2021, could we hear more about the MGS Remake during the upcoming June State of Play event? We sure hope so!

There is a focus on games from third-party developers as well as updates surrounding PSVR 2.

Old MGS Games Temporarily Removed From Sale

While it doesn't say anything about the rumoured MGS Remake, something interesting has happened in the world of Metal Gear this week.

Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 have been removed from sale on digital stores like PlayStation 3 and Xbox One. However, Konami says it's just a temporary removal due to some licensing renewals that are still being worked on.

"We sincerely ask for your patience and understanding as we work towards making these products available for purchase once again," Komani say. You can see their full statement below:

MGS Remake Isn't Bluepoint's Next Game

For a long time now, it has been rumoured that Bluepoint has been working on an MGS Remake. However, PlayStation announced today that they've acquired the studio, and we know more and what they're working on.

In an interview with IGN, Bluepoint said: "Our next project, we're working on original content right now. We can't talk about what that is, but that's the next step in the evolution for us."

What that game is, we are none the wiser, and we don't know if it's original IP or not, but it's not going to be MGS Remake.

That doesn't mean that the game isn't be worked on, it's just not the next project in the pipeline for Bluepoint.

MGS Remake is a no-show

Unfortunately, the rumoured MGS Remake on PS5 was a no show during the PlayStation Showcase. We did, however, get a massive reveal in the form of the Kights of the Old Republic remake.

Perhaps MGS isn't quite ready to show or maybe Sony would want to make an even bigger deal about the reveal. Only time will tell, we'll keep you up to date with the latest.

MGS Remake for PS5

Bluepoint Games, the studio behind incredibly successful remakes and remasters like Demon Souls, are believed to be helming this project. If so, then the best possible studio are on the job.

Could we see the MGS Remake announced during the PlayStation Showcase?

Konami has been more open to the idea of other studios working on the IP lately with multiple Silent Hill projects said to be in the works. One of which is being made by European developer Bloober Team.

It becomes much more believable that Bluepoint is on this project after it was leaked that they may have been purchased by Sony to become a first-party developer. We hope to learn a lot more about whatever may be in the works during the PlayStation Showcase this week. It takes place on Thursday, 9 September.

MGS Remake Release Date

In a world where the MGS Remake for PS5 exists, we believe it would still be some time until release. When looking at how long Bluepoint was believed to be working on Demon Souls, the game only games out in 2020.

This, of course, depends on how long the game has been in development. MGS is a smaller overall game as it was originally a PSOne title. Demon Souls was an early PS3 title meaning it had a lot more content to remaster in the first place.

We would expect that the earliest we would see the MGS Remake for PS5 would be late 2022.
