What we want to see from PlayStation's Project Spartacus

PlayStation's Project Spartacus has been hinted at for some time. Combining PS Now and PS Plus into an Xbox Game Pass competitor, there's a lot of directions it could go in the future.

Here are some of the things we hope it delivers when it arrives.

Bigger Libraries

Although it doesn't have to always match what Xbox Game Pass is doing, one of Game Pass's biggest strength's is the size of its library. For a healthy PlayStation subscription service to pull in more players, they need to offer enough games to keep players hooked for a long time.

Hopefully, when it arrives, it will come with a fresh batch of new games to make our way through.

Day One Releases

This is a huge one and perhaps one of the biggest things Project Spartacus can do. Getting new games people are excited about on the service would really incentivising renewing that subscription. They have already proven they are willing to do this with the day one launch of Shadow Warrior 3 on PS Now in March.

When it comes to releasing third party titles to the service, this will all depend on PlayStation's relationship with developers. Luckily, they have a whole wing of indie that could really bolster this out.

As well as this, it could help incentivise players giving more indie games a go too - a win/win situation.

DLC

This is a big bonus missing from Xbox Game Pass. Unless it comes in a Game of the Year edition of the game, they don't tend to give away much DLC. This is something Project Spartacus could win out with. As opposed to giving tonnes of games, it could focus on offering full experiences - games alongside all their DLC.

It would be nice to find a game and not have to worry that you may have to spend extra just to get the full experience. This is something PlayStation could benefit from.

Special Discounts

Although it seems likely that subscribers will get Project Spartacus related special deals, PlayStation could curate those deals for an extra little bonus. For instance, it could give a slight discount on any new 1st party titles like God of War Ragnarok.

This would help greatly to make the subscription feel like a holistic part of what it is to be a PlayStation owner. With the subscription, you get access to a cultural movement - a service that hundreds of thousands of people can talk about.

Other Bonuses

The incentives don't have to stop at games. A free month of Crunchyroll, Disney + or any other tv based subscription would be great. It's always nice to feel like you really got your money's worth out of your purchase and these extra bonuses would be great.

Ultimately, we would like Project Spartacus to be a little more than an amalgamation of PS Now and PS Plus. The experience could feel a little more curated to give a well rounded and great experience. PlayStation are clearly capable of it - it's just down to them to really try.
