Codemasters’ latest game isn’t just an off-road adventure. It takes the classic muddy experience and meshes it with Codies racing DNA.
Want to race on dirt in the morning in a Skoda Fabia R5 and on ice in the evening in a Ford Fiesta R5 MKII? DIRT 5 has got your back. Want to spend the afternoon bouldering? Done.
There are plenty of games that let you race off-road, but none approach the scope and scale of DIRT 5’s petrol-fuelled, mud-spattered cinematic masterpieces.
So, with a plethora of race features and cars to look at, let’s dive into what you can expect when playing DIRT 5!
The latest instalment in the franchise takes us away from isolated rally stages and around the world to a wide variety of settings that will have you wanting to stay forever.
From traditional villages nestled amongst sprawling paddy fields, to colossal real-world monuments and even phenomenal landscapes inspired by locations you could visit the very next day.
The location looks simply stunning on next-gen hardware. With the immense processing power of the new consoles lending itself perfectly to rendering such grandiose environments full of dynamism and colour.
From China to somewhere a little hotter: Cape Town, South Africa.
This stadium circuit features a complex interior portion, with jump crossovers and even an adoring crowd to try and please. Not only this, DIRT 5 adds a parking lot and even a thrilling outer route which we can’t wait to experience for ourselves.
Furthermore, this stadium will be playable across DIRT 5’s various modes, available in career and arcade as well as online in thrilling 12-person racing action.
Morocco and more…
Now this, this is cool. We’ve seen the first gameplay footage of the dynamic weather which is present is DIRT 5, featuring a Land Rush event across the North African country of Morocco.
This in-game event leads to some incredible visuals, as the track, and all the buggies seen racing on it, are engulfed by a truly terrifying digital representation of a sandstorm. Whilst there are a number of other dynamic weather features present in the game, in our opinion nothing quite showcases this feature like a Moroccan sandstorm.
One of the most impressive elements of this dynamic race feature is its visibility from long distances. As you guide your lightweight buggy around the track, which is a beautiful representation of Morocco’s countryside anyway, the beginnings of the storm are seen building in the distance.
This rising, ominous wall of sand slowly approaches the track, adding an element of dynamism that you rarely get.
It’s not just the places DIRT 5 takes you, but the style of racing on offer that separates DIRT 5 from the pack.
One of the most exciting features coming to DIRT 5 is Rally Raid, which perfectly epitomises Codemasters’ ethos of taking traditional off-road racing and turning it up to 11.
With a multitude of vehicles able to compete, we’re excited to race point-to-point in anything from modern rally cars to trucks, buggies and anything else in between.
Not only are the locations for these Rally Raid events awe-inspiring, the gameplay is too. With an exciting element of unpredictability added, you’ll need to make sure you’re not just paying attention to jaw-dropping scenery that you’re racing through!
Showing off the glory of the Arizona desert, Stampede is a time-trial event for up to 12 cars simultaneously, with some pretty unforgiving track elements.
With tremendous jumps, severe camber and some pretty sizeable drops, this mode will be a true test for even hardened DIRT veterans.
Path Finder is a new and exciting game mode featured in DIRT 5. It effortlessly combines rock-crawling with hillclimb, whilst being framed as a traditional rally stage.
The featured gameplay shows the extreme environment which the player will have to force their racer of choice through. With steep inclines and epic jumps comprising the majority of the course.
