Rainbow Six Siege: Will we see Cross-play become available on Next-Gen consoles?


Rainbow Six Siege is one of the last games to not adopt crossplay between PS4, Xbox One, and PC players - but will players see a change to this on next-generation consoles?

Developer Confirmation for Cross-play

 In March 2020, the developer confirmed that those on PS5 will be able to access matchmaking with PS4 players.

The same will be possible for those wanting to play between Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles.

However, this functionality only expands to the particular family of consoles; PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players will continue not seeing one another in matchmaking lobbies.

Speculation of full cross-play availability

As more games are branching out to allow full cross-play availability, there is still hope for this to eventually change with regards to Rainbow Six Siege.

REVOLUTIONARY: Game director drops hint that cross-play will arrive in future

Game director Leroy Athanassof provided Rainbow fans with huge encouragement as he gave Window Central his view on the matter.

He stated it’s a conversation that has to be had between Xbox and PlayStation, but he believes that “it’s just a matter of time before it happens.”

Rainbow Six Siege on Next-Gen

At Ubisoft Forward in September, the developers confirmed that the game will launch on next-gen systems before the end of 2020.

NEW EXPERIENCE: Rainbow Six Siege will run at 4K resolution on Xbox Series X and PS5

Players remaining in the same console family will be able to upgrade to the next-gen version of Siege for free.

That means you can go from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Series S or X, and your game will come with you.

That also means that you'll keep all of your unlocked Operators!
