Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

With so many different types to choose from, you probably have a few queries about blenders, but we're here to clear up some of the most common questions.

What's the difference between a blender and a juicer?

A juicer is specifically engineered to extract juice from fruits and vegetables while separating the pulp or fibre. There are various types of juicers available that do this, including centrifugal juicers and masticating juicers.

Centrifugal juicers employ high-speed spinning blades to separate the juice from the pulp. The fruits or vegetables are shredded, and the centrifugal force extracts the juice while the pulp is collected separately. On the other hand, masticating juicers, also referred to as cold-press or slow juicers, utilise a slow grinding or chewing motion to extract juice. These juicers often feature a single or twin auger that crushes the produce, effectively pressing out the juice while preserving more of the nutrients.

In contrast, blenders are primarily designed to process and blend all components of your ingredients together, resulting in typically thicker mixtures that retain the complete nutritional benefits of the ingredients.

What should you look for from a blender?

Before we get into the more technical details, our first recommendation would be to consider your available space.

While a blender that can produce 14 cups in one go may seem useful, you might not necessarily have the space to house it. Fortunately, there are a ton of single-cup blenders for personal use if you're looking for something more compact.

Once the size has been considered, we'd recommend looking into the speed and power of the blender you're interested in.

Something around 500W should be good for smoothies, and anything with between three and 10 speed settings tends to be useful as it gives you more control over the blending process. A pulse option as well is definitely a plus.

Finally, keep an eye out for any special attachments like on-the-go cups as these can be useful additions if you don't own a set yourself.

What does a pulse do?

The pulse function is used when you need short bursts of power at optimum speed, giving you complete control as you decide how many pulses are required to fully blend your ingredients.

This is designed to prevent over-blending, however, not all blenders come with this function.

It may be worth checking the blender's specs before purchasing to make sure it comes with this function if you require it.
