Cristiano Ronaldo's departure: As it happened

Cristiano Ronaldo's fairytale return to Manchester United proved to be anything but and, after a number of disciplinary issues across the last six months, he has been relieved of his duties at Old Trafford.

From smashing a young Everton fans phone following defeat at Goodison Park to storming off down the tunnel after being left on the bench against Tottenham Hotspur, things haven't gone to plan for Manchester United's poster boy.

But it was his interview with Piers Morgan that delivered the killer blow to his Manchester United career, one in which the 38-year-old pulled no punches in criticising the club from top to bottom.

Where he will go next remains to be seen, but we won't see him in the red of Manchester United again, that's for sure.
