Every Joe Root Test Century of 2022

England enjoyed a record-breaking morning at Edgbaston on Tuesday, as Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow put on a batting clinic en route to a historic victory over India.

Sitting at 109-3 on day four, few gave England any hope of registering the Test-high 378 runs they required for victory, but the fourth wicket partnership both notched centuries to secure a series draw with the visitors.

Joe Root registered his fifth century of 2022 to help his country to victory. We take a look back at all five here at RealSport101.

109 - West Indies, 12th March

Joe Root's first test century of the year came in the second innings of England's opening test during their tour of the West Indies in March.

Root registered 109 runs off 204 balls - including six fours - before being dismissed by Alzarri Joseph.

The century was Root's third in the West Indies, with his highest score in the Caribbean coming back in 2015, when he notched a sensational 182 not out.

153 - West Indies, 16th March

Seemingly discontent with a century in his first match of the tour of the West Indies, Root went out and scored 153 in England's opening innings of the second Test.

Again, it would prove in vain for Root and England, who would go on to register a second consecutive draw in their three-test series.

115* - New Zealand, 5th June

For any batsman, there are few better feelings than notching a century at Lords, but that is becoming a regular occurrence for Joe Root.

Root registered his fifth Lord's century back in June, as he hammered 115 off 170 balls - including 12 fours - to help England to a five-wicket victory over New Zealand in their opening test of the summer.

176 - New Zealand, 12th June

Joe Root's highest score of 2022 so far came in England's second test against New Zealand, as the Yorkshireman's knock of 176 helped England to wrap up the series in convincing style.

It was a batting masterclass from Root, whose 176 came off just 211 balls with a strike rate of 83.41.

142* - India, 5th July

Joe Root's latest century may just be his best of the lot, as he fired 142 not out to help England to achieve a record-breaking victory over India at Edgbaston.

Few gave England any hope of victory against India, given that they needed a record Test chase total of 378 for victory. However, Root was not to be denied, as he and Jonny Bairstow (114 n.o) both registered a century en route to a historic success.
