How many European teams qualified for Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup?


Current champions France have already qualified for this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

We now have 27 out of the final 32 World Cup teams confirmed, with just a few playoff games remaining.

But, how many European teams have qualified for the Qatar 2022 World Cup alongside France? Find out here.

Which European teams have qualified?

10 groups with either five or six teams from Europe were put together in order to determine who would qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

The top team from each group qualified automatically.

The 10 runners-up as well as the two best Nations League group winners were put into a 12-team playoff structure with three effective paths of four teams each that will provide three qualified teams.

On Tuesday, 29 March, Poland and Portugal booked their places at the Qatar World Cup.

That gives us the following list of qualified teams from Europe:

  • Spain
  • Serbia
  • England
  • Switzerland
  • Netherlands

  • Scotland or Ukraine or Wales

Qatar 2022 start date

The 2022 World Cup is taking place in Qatar in the winter months rather than the usual summer ones, due to the heat.

The tournament kicks off on Monday, 21 November at the Al Bayt stadium in Al Khor with a match that will feature the host country, Qatar.

The final will be played at the Lusail Stadium in Doha a week before Christmas on Sunday, 18 December.
