Inter Miami CF vs Minnesota United: MLS preview, tips and team news

Two struggling MLS sides look to bounce back from defeats this weekend as Inter Miami host Minnesota United.

The hosts have endured an inconsistent season and failed to carry over the momentum they built up over the international break when they were beaten 2-0 by Atlanta United last weekend.

Minnesota United, meanwhile, travel to Miami having lost four of their last five games away from home.

RealSport101's Harry Smith is on hand to preview this MLS fixture with team news, lineups and betting tips provided.

Inter Miami CF vs Minnesota United team news

Inter Miami welcomed Victor Ulloa and Ryan Sailor back to the matchday squad last weekend, but will still be without five first-team players due to injury when they take on Minnesota United on Sunday. The home side's woes are worsened with defensive midfielder Jean Mota set to miss out through suspension.

Manager Phil Neville could call upon Victor Ulloa to replace the suspended Mota, while Emerson Rodriguez is in line for his first start of the MLS season having made nine substitute appearances to date. Leonardo Campana will continue to lead the line ahead of Gonzalo Higuain.

Minnesota United have two long-term absentees with Hassani Dotson and Patrick Weah both recovering from serious ACL injuries, but defender Romain Metanire is closing in on a first-team return as he steps up his recovery from a thigh injury.

Adrian Heath could opt for an unchanged starting XI this weekend after his side threatened but failed to convert chances against the New England Revolution last time out. Goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair endured a tough afternoon that day but should retain his place for the trip to Miami.

Inter Miami CF vs Minnesota United score prediction

Inter Miami were second-best in every department last weekend as they were beaten 2-0 in a routine Atlanta United win at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Phil Neville's side looked to have finally turned their fortunes around heading into the international break following a four-game unbeaten run, but the Herons must now rebuild their momentum.

Central to Inter Miami's problems has been their attacking woes. The hosts have been far too reliant on Leonardo Campana this season. The Ecuadorian striker has scored seven of their 15 this season with goals from elsewhere in short supply.

There are no better opponents for Inter Miami right now than Minnesota United. These two sides have scored 16 and 15 goals respectively this season with only Chicago Fire having scored less in MLS this season. The visitors have been dismal on the road lately, losing four of their last five MLS games away from Allianz Field.

Adrian Heath's side were typically wasteful in front of goal against New England Revolution and now travel to Miami having claimed just four points from their last seven MLS outings. Confidence in the away camp is at rock bottom right now and pressure is building on the manager to turn things around soon.

Score Prediction: Inter Miami CF 1-0 Minnesota United

Harry Smith's Tip: Under 2.5 Goals
