Colchester's season plans have been torn apart in the past couple of days after popular manager Matt Bloomfield was poached from the club by League 1 outfit Wycombe.

Bloomfield heads to Adams Park as a club legend looking to successfully replace another club legend after Gareth Ainsworth's 11-year spell in charge of the club came to an end after he took up the vacant position at QPR.

Colchester will now look for their third manager of the season after they parted ways with Wayne Brown earlier in the campaign.

With the board's quest for a new head coach already underway, RealSport101's Harry Smith is on hand to give you the latest odds to replace Matt Bloomfield as Colchester manager.

Bloomfield's Colchester departure: As it happened

Bloomfield's departure from Colchester turned out to be a speedy affair with news surfacing only at the start of the week that Gareth Ainsworth was in pole position to land the newly-vacant role as QPR boss.

Ainsworth then ended his 11-year stay at Adams Park to rejoin a club where he was so duly loved during his playing days, leaving the manager post at Wycombe vacant.

This opened the door for Bloomfield to make a return to Wycombe, less than two years after he called time on his playing career with the Chairboys.

Bloomfield is a club legend in the purest sense at Wycombe, but for Colchester, the long journey to appointing a successor begins.
