Pep Guardiola's Top Five Manchester City Moments... So Far

Pep Guardiola is understood to have agreed to a two-year contract extension with Manchester City, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2025.

The Spaniard has been at the helm at the Etihad Stadium since the 2016/17 season, and has enjoyed plenty of success with the Citizens during his time in East Manchester.

Let's take a look back at his top five Manchester City moments, so far.

5. The first of many

Guardiola is no stranger to winning trophies. In fact, he has won 33 of them in his managerial career to date.

11 of those have come as manager of Manchester City, but it is his first in England that ought to be remembered, as the club began their reign of terror over the Carabao Cup.

A 3-0 success over Arsene Wenger's Arsenal handed Guardiola his first winner's medal, with a trio of Manchester City legends marking their names on the scoresheet.

Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva scored the goals that day, and all three are now permanent fixtures of the Etihad Stadium, having been handed statues to commemorate their successful stints at the club.

Could Pep Guardiola stand among them in the future? I wouldn't rule it out.

4. Demolition Derby

Manchester City have had the upper hand on Manchester United for some time now, and they have enjoyed many a derby day victory over their local rivals under Pep Guardiola.

The most iconic under the Spaniard came in March of this year, as Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez grabbed a brace apiece as they eased to a 4-1 victory over United at the Etihad.

It was a result that was mightily important in the context of the Premer League title race, moving City six points clear of Liverpool as a result.

The iconic images of Pep Guardiola marauding his technical area as the Etihad faithful broke out into the Poznan celebration will be enjoyed by Manchester City fans for many a year to come.

3. 14 in a row

Having recorded a record-breaking 100 Premier League points in the 2017/18 season, many would've forgiven City if they suffered a little bit of a hangover in the 2018/19 campaign.

But despite the best efforts of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, Pep Guardiola would rally his troops and lead them to a second successive Premier League title, registering a tally of 98 points that would better their North West rivals by a mere point.

The title run-in couldn't have been closer, as neither team gave the other an inch throughout the final months of the campaign. It was City who would ultimately end up on top though, courtesy of a 14-match winning run that ended with a 4-1 victory at Brighton and Hove Albion on the final day of the season.

2. Comeback Kings

Manchester City has won four Premier League titles during Pep Guardiola's reign, but whilst they have developed a habit of winning titles, they don't always do it the easy way.

If Sergio Aguero's famous last-minute winner against QPR wasn't enough to test the heart rate of Manchester City fans, then their 2021/22 final-day comeback against Aston Villa should've done the trick.

When Philippe Coutinho gave the Villans a two-goal advantage 20 minutes from time, it looked as though Steven Gerrard's side had handed the Premier League title to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool. Not on Pep's watch.

An inspired trio of second-half substitutes paved the way for a historic comeback in which Manchester City would score three goals in five minutes to secure the Premier League title.

Michael Oliver's full-time whilst sparked scenes of jubilation inside the Etihad Stadium as tears of joy rolled down Pep Guardiola's face.

1. Centurions

Manchester City's 2017/18 campaign broke the scale as far as the Premier League is concerned, as they became the first side in the history of the competition to hit 100 points.

The Citizens broke a heap of records en route to 100 points, including registering the most consecutive Premier League victories (18), the most away wins in a season 16 and the most successive PL Manager of the Month awards (4, Sept-Dec).

The images of Pep Guardiola wheeling away in celebration as Gabriel Jesus' last-minute winner at Southampton secured City their Centurions tag will live long in the memory of many a Manchester City fan.
