What is a WWE Fight Pit match?

WWE's Extreme Rules pay-per-view will take place next month, with Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle set to put an end to their feud when they meet at the Wells Fargo Centre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The duo have been at each other's throats for quite some time now, but tensions boiled over in a recent edition of Raw when Matt Riddle's intervention cost Seth Rollins the United States Championship.

They will settle their differences inside the squared circle on October 8th, but it won't be any old match. The two are set to meet in a Fight Pit match.

But what exactly is a Fight Pit? Here is everything you need to know.

What is a WWE Fight Pit match?

The Fight Pit is a relatively new concept to the WWE Universe, having been introduced on NXT back in May 2020, a match that featured none other than Matt Riddle.

It combines the joys of a traditional WWE match with the thrills of a Steel Cage match as the ring is surrounded by a structure that strongly resembles the infamous steel cage.

However unlike in a traditional Steel Cage match, neither wrestler can claim victory by escaping the cage, nor can they claim victory via pinfall.

There are two ways in which competitors can claim victory, either by submission or by knock-out.

When is the next WWE Fight Pit match?

Fight Pit matches are few and far between in the WWE, in fact, we have never witnessed a Fight Pit match on the main roster within the organisation.

That is set to change on October 8th though, as Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle meet inside the steel structure at WWE's Extreme Rules pay-per-view.
