When does the Premier League resume?

Football across the United Kingdom was brought to a halt this weekend, following the tragic passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

The Premier League, English Football League and Scottish Premiership were among those who opted to postpone their fixtures as a sign of respect for Her Majesty after her passing on Thursday afternoon.

Sports across the country continued across the weekend, with arrangements put in place to show respect to the monarchy, including the use of black armbands and the signing of the national anthem.

Here is everything we know regarding the resumption of the Premier League.

When will the Premier League resume?

As of Sunday, September 11th, there has been no direct confirmation from the Premier League with regards to when the competition will resume.

The funeral for Queen Elizabeth II has now been confirmed for Monday, September 19th, in what will be an official bank holiday for residents of the United Kingdom.

As such, there is no Premier League action that is due to take place on the day of the funeral itself, and with the government's guidance confirming that sports can go ahead, the decision now lays with the governing bodies of the respective competitions.

It is worth noting that there are concerns regarding the availability of police resources in London over what is expected to be an incredibly busy weekend.

European Football to go ahead as scheduled

Whilst there has been no official word on the domestic game in the United Kingdom, it has been confirmed that European football will go ahead as scheduled in the week beginning Monday, September 12th.

Liverpool will take on Ajax at Anfield in a UEFA Champions League clash on Tuesday, September 13th, whilst Manchester City, Rangers and Chelsea are all in action on Wednesday, hosting Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and RB Salzburg respectively.

Arsenal are in Europa League action on Thursday night, welcoming Dutch side PSV Eindhoven to the Emirates Stadium.
