Who is the New England Patriots' backup quarterback for 2022?

Bailey Zappe is the New England Patriots backup quarterback for the 2022 season.

The 23-year-old was selected by the New England Patriots as the 137th pick in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

A foot injury to Mac Jones paved the way for Zappe to make his NFL debut ahead of schedule, as the Western Kentucky graduate replaced the injured Brian Hoyer in the first quarter of their Week 4 game against the Green Bay Packers.

Zappe's first start, and first victory, in the NFL came in Week 5, as Zappe threw for 188 yards on 17 of 21 passing, a touchdown and an interception as the Patriots shut out the Detroit Lions 29-0.

Mac Jones' return came in the Patriots' Week 7 loss to the Chicago Bears, Zappe featured in the second half but ultimately fell back down the pecking order but was retained as the New England Patriots backup quarterback for the remainder of the season.
