Ronda Rousey body slams her ticket to WrestleMania

It’s hard to overstate the level of hype there’s been for Ronda Rousey’s arrival in WWE. Even before her shocking appearance at the Royal Rumble in January, there has been speculation about just when the former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion would make her jump to the world of wrestling official. At Elimination Chamber, she did just that by signing her WWE contract. On top of that, she’s been guaranteed the right to compete at WrestleMania, but things didn’t go as smoothly as Triple H and Stephanie McMahon may have wanted.

No special treatment

The WWE Universe got to hear from “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey for the first time in a WWE ring tonight, and the theme was clear. Rousey said more than once that she doesn’t expect special treatment. On the contrary, Ronda emphasized that she wants to be treated no differently than anyone else. Triple H and Stephanie played the corporate role and smiled their way through the signing, but it was Raw General Manager Kurt Angle who derailed things.

Before Rousey could sign her contract, she was distracted by a hushed argument between Angle and Triple H. Ronda asked Kurt to speak his mind, and that’s where it all went off the rails. Kurt struggled with his words a bit, but he pretty clearly threw Triple H and Stephanie under the bus. Kurt made it clear that The Authority considered Rousey their property, and weren’t genuine in their respectful attitude towards her arrival.

Triple H did his best to tamp down tensions and escort Kurt to the back, but not before Kurt let out one last quip about Stephanie believing “she could take” Rousey. The writing was on the wall at that point. After an intense standoff between Ronda and Stephanie, Triple H separated them. As he tried to keep the peace, Ronda suddenly grabbed him and drove Triple H through a table with a belly to belly suplex.
