BREAKING: Graham Potter appointed as Chelsea manager

Graham Potter has been announced as the new Chelsea manager following the departure of Thomas Tuchel on Wednesday morning.

The highly-rated manager has left Brighton following an impressive spell at Brighton, whom he took over back in 2019.

New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly backed Thomas Tuchel heavily in the transfer market this summer, spending over £200 million to bring in a wealth of additions to the Blues squad.

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling, Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly and Leicester starlet Wesley Fofana were all big-name acquisitions for the London club.

Potter will also have the chance to reunite with Marc Cucurella, who he brought to Brighton following an exceptional spell in La Liga with Getafe and who joined Chelsea for a massive fee earlier this summer.

Thomas Tuchel's departure: as it happened

Thomas Tuchel will be fondly remembered by Chelsea fans after delivering the club's second-ever Champions League trophy in 2021, beating Manchester City in the final thanks to a Kai Havertz strike.

The German has since struggled to find consistency, following up a disappointing end to the 2021/22 campaign with an inconsistent start to the current one.

A 1-0 Champions League group stage defeat to Dinamo Zagreb proved the last straw with Tuchel's departure being announced on the morning of Wednesday, September 7th.

What next for Brighton?

Brighton will be left to pick up the pieces after their beloved manager was snatched away by Chelsea.

Owner Tony Bloom is renowned for his data-led approach to recruitment, and the new manager will likely be another shrewd appointment.
