Nick Kyrgios is now the favourite to win the 2022 US Open after he beat world No.1 and pre-tournament favourite Daniil Medvedev in four sets on Monday.

The controversial Aussie has already beaten the likes of Thanasi Kokkinakis, Benjamin Bonzi and JJ Wolf on his way to the quarter-finals, but with Medvedev and Nadal now out, Grand Slam victory looks a real possibility.

Kyrgios now faces off against Karen Khachanov for a place in the 2022 US Open semi-finals. Here is everything you need to know about his opponent.

Who is Karen Khachanov?

Karen Khachanov is a 26-year-old Russian tennis player who is currently ranked 31st in the world heading into the US Open. The 27th-seed will take on the controversial Nick Kyrgios for a place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Khachanov may not be a household name for tennis fans, but the Russian is now a three-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist following fifth-round appearances at the 2019 French Open and at Wimbledon 2021.

These two players have met twice before in competitive play with Khachanov taking the victory when the pair met at the Cincinnati Open in 2019, before Kyrgios struck back on home turf in 2020, knocking Khachanov out of the Australian Open.
